It's interesting as I read these types of threads to read people's comments who claim to be Christians actually get really mean spirited when other people don't believe exactly the same way that they do. You don't convert people to your way of thinking by being an asshole. I mean, I guess it's worked pretty for Muslims over the centuries, but it seems counterintuitive to Christianity. I certainly hope I have not come across that way. I apologize if I have. On that subject, sometimes people get offended when people try to point out something no matter how you try to come across. It's a defensive mechanism. If I honestly believe in my heart something is good for you and try to present it to you, it's because of concern for your wellbeing. Should I be arrogant about it or mean spirited? Absolutely not. I akin it to a doctor finding something wrong with your heart and telling you that you need to lose weight or cut something out of your diet. It might hurt your feelings a little but he's saying it to try to help you. We don't get mad at the doctor do we?Have a good Sunday guys! I don't believe anyone mentioned being "offended". No offense taken. I just find it interesting behavior. It's kind of like people at the gym giving unsolicited workout advice to others. I certainly don't get mad at the Doctor, because he or she is supposed to be a learned individual that is supposed to be an expert in their field and is supposed to be beholden to an oath. So they get a pass, unless they are just a bad doctor. Are you a Doctor of Divinity? Do you believe that you possess some special knowledge of the nature of God that only you are qualified or compelled to dispense to others? (Serious question and I'm not being snide when I ask it.) I have shared my way of envisioning God on here and my relationship with God, because it was relevant to a question that was asked, but I certainly don't expect nor desire anyone to feel the same way about God that I do. I have no qualifications other than I'm a Christian and have faith in God, grace through Jesus and guidance thought the Holy Spirit. Why would an omnipotent God need me to convince you that I am right about Him? (Serious question...) if someone tells me that they are saved, I don't go nit picking their doctrine. I don't believe that's why God put me here. I'm just happy they are saved. Happy Sunday my friend...

I’ll also add that I think part of this idea that it has to be a literal interpretation or nothing has probably stemmed from some folks not wanting to open the door to interpretation of meaning in other parts of the Bible……So a literal interpretation of creation has likely been pushed by some simply for the sake of maintaining conformity and control as much as anything……If someone is ok with interpreting the creation story then you risk that they may also be ok with interpreting other things and we cant have that……That’s really a silly way of looking at the Bible in my opinion though for an individual truly seeking a personal relationship outside of all that noise of the masses telling you how it is HAS to be or else…..You should be able to take each story for what it is…..…..I’m kinda like Irishguy’s comment in asking “Who are you to make the proclamation that everyone must choose between the Bible or evolution?”……

The way yall are feeling towards folks sharing the truth is inevitable. The Gospel is offensive and exclusionary. Most folks are not trying to sound haughty or holier than thou, they are just sharing the truth to the best of their limited ability. Every man who ever lived will disappoint you, except one! The only people who have said anything about being offended is you and Driveby. No one is offended. I follow the Gospel. I don't dispute it. However there are many different interpretations of it. How do I know that? I know that because depending on who you ask, there are between 45k and 65k different denominations. Why are there that many different Christian denominations? There are that many different denominations, because they all disagree on some fundamentally different interpretations of the Scripture. Different enough to break off from some other people and start yet another Church. So folks argue tidbits of scripture with other folks like they are the holy keepers of the faith and everyone but them is wrong. This is why we have so many churches.

The only people who have said anything about being offended is you and Driveby. No one is offended. I never implied you or anyone else in this thread was offended, I was simply commenting on your comment that some were mean spirited in their comments when they discussed Biblical topics. People who are mean spirited offend people but sometimes people get offended no matter how nice you are. I never said that was you. I was only explaining why I felt those people got offended.

... Great questions...... I will simply respond to this by saying God, through the Bible says that it is our duty as Christians to tell others about Him. Mark 16:15 to the apostles, And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 1 Peter 3:15, But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; 2 Timothy 4:2, Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. Romans 10: 13-14, 3 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? As to why God NEEDS us to spread his word, I don't believe he NEEDS us to do anything, I believe that's what He CHOSE. Jesus chose common men like fishermen to spread his gospel, not Doctors of Divinity (The Pharisees). I'm just a common man myself.
