Local gun shop was running sales on 22cal suppressors this week with no tax added so I swung by and got one. I don’t have anything threaded to put this on so it’s time to shop. Thinking either a ruger American or Bergara rim fire but have no experience with either caliber. It’ll basically just ride in the truck for shooting just whatever up to hogs. Any reason to go with one or the other or is it just ford vs Chevy?

Both are awesome and ammo is roughly the same cost. Shooting hogs I'd have to go 22 WMR just for the heavier bullets.

I own both. My 17HMR is deadly accurate, but my 22 Mag has a little more Ooommph!

My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.

Neither would be a top choice for hogs. I've got the Bergara BMR Carbon in 17HMR. The thing is off the hook! The 17 will shoot flatter and wind drift a lot less. Still, 22 mag is a fun little round.

When I got my rimfire suppressor (recently) I took the BMR out with the can to make sure the accuracy hadn't changed. Here's my 100 yard group with Hornady 20XTP ammo.

Definitely not going to be a go to hog hunting rifle but it’s not uncommon to come across them riding around our club/dirt roads here. For sure gonna be way more for playing with than anything

I own both as well but I have not had a chance to shoot anything with the 17 HMR, It is a CZ 527 and it is superbly accurate with 17 and 20 gr loads and fast-as in over 2400 and 2500 fps. But...my old Marlin 25mn in 22 mag shoots about 1" at 100yds and with 40 gr Federal fmj ammo, it clocks a flat 2000 fps. With 30 gf Hornady ammo it is close to 2200 and that load has killed hogs but with head shots. If I didn't have either one, I would start with a 22 mag with a treaded muzzle. I would buy the Begara based on the bad experience I had with the Ruger 22 but it might have been a isolated event...Murphy's Law!!

Hell, we used to kill hogs with a 22LR. Right in the ear hole.

I have the same rifle and its sweet shooting with a can. Great trigger and accuracy.

Very good rifle for the price.

Yup, I can sit down at the bench on a bipod, dial just under +4 MOA elevation and ping golf balls at 200 yards with boring consistency. Impressive little rifle. My son has one in 22LR and it's very accurate as well.

It seems like a 5MM Remington has similar characteristics based on Google, but getting ammo for it is a PITA. I haven't shot mine much because of that.

Have both. The 22 is more powerful obviously and plenty accurate, but the 17 i have is amazingly accurate.

Also look at the savage b22. Mine is boringly accurate. Turtles don’t have a prayer

If Remington had made the 5mm a .224, it would still be with us. They were famous for doing dumb things, like the Etronix primed rifle.
