For $2K I'd search out an unfired Remington 700 Classic. These rifles were only produced in limited runs of one caliber per year and are just beautiful from an era when quality and craftsmanship were still held in high regard. I believe they came out in 1978 but here's a list from 1981 through the end of production in 2005. I found a NIB in .308 last year and made her mine.
