If you want a M70, look for a New Haven made Classic model.
Not a fan of the FN production M70 rifles.

For $2K I'd search out an unfired Remington 700 Classic. These rifles were only produced in limited runs of one caliber per year and are just beautiful from an era when quality and craftsmanship were still held in high regard. I believe they came out in 1978 but here's a list from 1981 through the end of production in 2005. I found a NIB in .308 last year and made her mine.

I bought a Sako Finnbear last year. Beautiful rifle in 30-06. Haven’t even shot it yet. Its a heavy joker though.

Regardless of the answers to the previous questions- Winchester is not the answer When they were still made in New Haven, Winchester was turning out some good looking rifles that were also very accurate. I have 3 of the classic model rifles and they are all sub MOA guns. My Stainless Classic 300 Winchester Magnum is a .5 MOA gun or better with Berger VLD bullets. I hate the trigger on the post New Haven, FN produced M70 rifles. The barrels are also not the same quality and I think they use silly putty for a bedding material. If i need another Winchester, I'll be looking for older guns and pass on current production rifles.

Ive had 2 new haven classics. Both were 1/2 MOA with good handloads. My current is a 308 that will shoot a ragged hole at 100 yds with the right load and look good doing it. Neither were anywhere near $2k.

Tikka t3x lite stainless in cartridge of choice. My 223, 6.5 Creedmoor, and 6.5 PRC in that model are all very accurate. My next purchase will be the same model in 6 Creedmoor.
Heck, I can cover 5 shots at 50 yards with a dime from my Tikka t1x 22lr.
