Serious, respectful question for CNC, Irish, or any others that believe similarly. If you don’t believe the entire Bible, what is your measuring stick for which parts are accurate? Your own discernment? What science postulates? Thanks in advance for your answers, I’m genuinely curious.
When Jesus taught in parables I don’t think he meant for them to be taken literally and it was more about the meaning behind the story……and that’s the way I look at some things in the Bible like Jonah and the whale for example…..I don’t believe he literally lived inside of a whale……I believe it’s a story meant to teach a lesson…..With creation I look at is as the best attempt of an ancient story to describe what happened and a remarkably accurate one all things considered…… I don’t expect humans from thousands of years ago to be telling me about genetic mutation of the DNA though…….I expect the creation story to be more of a “tale” with concepts……
I think though because we grew up seeing it portrayed in story books as two modern white humans wearing a fig leaf that some of us have tied that image to what the first humans had to have looked like and it tears down our psyche to think of it any other way…….I think its more psychological than anything…….Everything about what we have discovered points to us coming from a more primitive creature…..I cant throw that reality away and pretend it doesn’t exist just because it isnt written out literally in the Bible…..I’m ok with that part though…..I have no problem believing that the creation story is an attempt to describe how the first humans mutated and mordaciously gained an intelligence and consciousness than no other animal has……I don’t think the story in the Bible has to be two white humans poofing into existence out thin air…….There’s room for it to be bigger than that
