Yesterday was 22yrs for me at the Tuscaloosa plant. They announced it to us today. This year operations will be the same. Starting in ‘27 will be ramping down as they shift things to Fort Wayne IN. ‘28 will be final
phases of permanent shutdown. I truly hate this for you. I’ve been in those same shoes. How old are you? Old enough to retire by the time it closes? Do you have enough seniority to hold on till the end? I’m 48. I really don’t want to be looking for a job amongst the other 1200 when they turn the lights off so I’ll be actively looking to see what’s out there. I won’t be making any knee jerk decisions right now but the wife and I will need to be talking about some decisions that’ll need to be made. To make it a double whammy, my wife works there too. She’s an engineer. So she’ll be looking as well. I agree about union plants. They’re just too costly to run. I withdrew from the USW at the plant a while back. They just fight for the wrong people but that’s a whole other thread. Regardless union or not we’re all in the same boat now.
