The 1,200 employees at the BFG plant in Tuscaloosa will be laid off over the next two years.
I don’t believe after this closure we will have any tire manufacturers left here in AL. At one time there was 3. Uniroyal Opelika, Goodyear Gadsden, BFG Tuscaloosa are the three I’m aware of Used to be a Dunlop plant near Madison. I installed some alarms at a Michelin plant near Dothan about 15 years ago. I imagine it’s still there. It's still there; I did some work with them when they opened. Had a nice test track. The Dunlop tire manufacturing facility in the Huntsville, Alabama area is actually operated by Goodyear (which owns the Dunlop brand). Located in the neighboring town of Harvest, this major production facility employs roughly 1,400 people and specializes in high-performance tires.
