I had to replace two toilets today. I picked up two American standard models yesterday from Lowes. I have done this many times before at other places I’ve lived or when I was in the remodeling business another lifetime ago so this definitely isn’t my first rodeo. First one goes down zero problems. Second one gets installed tank is leaking from underneath. I’m thinking I must have pinched a gasket so I vacuum out the water pull the tank. Check the gasket reset the tank. Still leaking. Vacuum out the water again pull the tank off and find where there is a very very fine crack right around where the gasket sits. I put the toilet back in the box and take off to Lowe’s with my receipt. They tell me they will not exchange nor refund me my money because the toilet has now been contaminated. I told them the toilet has not been used that I never even finished installing it. Apparently, once you put a wax ring on the bottom of a toilet and go to set it it is considered contaminated. I pointed out that there is no way to test a toilet without it being installed and the water hooked up. They told me there was nothing they could do. I called bullshit on that and told her I wanted a manager. The manager came up and told me the same thing. Thankfully, he had some common sense though, and looked at my receipt and saw where I had just purchased the toilets less than 15 hours earlier. So he worked some of his keyboard magic and ended up, refunding me my money which allowed me to go purchase another one. I say all of this to let you know should you run into the same thing you better clean the wax ring off the bottom pack that thing back up exactly the way it came out of the box and don’t tell them you installed it. I almost had a case of red ass.

Lowe’s is ridiculous. Idiots delivered a broken toilet to me which I refused to accept. Moron delivery guy knew it was broken when he picked it up and planned to deliver it broken anyway. Talk about incompetent people at the store. How do you see a toilet obviously broken with a big hole and chunks of porcelain falling out and send it to be delivered?? Lowe’s are a bunch of idiots. Fought with them and filed complaints and bad reviews on these idiots. Got my money back after multiple calls to store and corporate Lowe’s. 💩 on Lowes.

I've sworn off Lowes and Home Depot except when I absolutely can't avoid them....About 75% of the time I step foot in one, I leave pissed off.

Thank goodness we recently had a local family we [sorta] know open up a small family-owned hardware store about a mile from our house. I'm not talking about an Ace franchise either, but a legit, one-off, family-owned store. They obviously don't have the inventory Lowes/HD has, but they have most of the stuff you'd ever need, and their prices are surprisingly competitive with the big guys.

For anyone in the Northport or Northside areas.....Milligan's Home Improvement and Milligan's Farm & Lumber (two diff locations). Please support these folks so they do well and we continue to have local options...

Been several years now but I grabbed one for the camp and didn't inspect it cause the box/packaging was flawless (which i usually still do but didn't) got 2 & half hours away at camp amd done had floor door other chitter ripped out and when finally unboxed the whole bottom half was busted too pieces 🤬 I grabbed a mini fridge with freezer few years ago and had to open 4 before found one that wasn't damaged, them sorry SOBs box that crap up and ship it on out like that

I have had really good experiences at Lowes; especially the nice lady on the Pro side in Hoover. I ordered $2000 worth of Trex today and she beat Five Star Lumber by 25%.

I could see now how Lowe's likely has to operate like this with this particular item. However, I would have been chapped as well! My gosh, it was broken when you bought it! Thanks for the heads up for the rest of us relatively innocent minded folks just trying to get shit done ;-) Figuratively and literally!

Similar issue I had one that had a hairline crack in one of the inner water channels so small I only found it with a flashlight shining down through the bowl, took it back to Lowe's with flashlight in hand and was told there was nothing they could due even if it is a factory defect, called AS from the parking lot got a hold of the BEST CSR I have ever spoken to, he said he was calling the store right now which he did and told me everything was taken care of, so I took the toilet back inside and was chewed out by the manager for calling AS....needless the conversation went downhill but I got a new toilet

I've bought a bunch of stuff from HD and Lowes for the cabin and haven't had but one problem when I ordered mitre countertops from HD. They "seemed to have become missing" during transit and I had to reorder. Other than that, no regrets. Them toilets can be hard to repack I imagine with this put there, and it goes only one-way. I can't remember that stuff anymore. lol We have a store called "Home Outlet" that has some things in stock with decent prices on some stuff.

My next toilet will be one of those pressure assisted toilet's.

I've had good luck with Lowes. When Home Depot quit giving Military Discount, never set foot in there since.

They still give military discount, but them and Lowe’s have reduced what it applies to. Most electrical no longer gets the discount at both stores.

If you can wait for delivery of items, use the base exchange online store which connects to Home Depot. You get military discount and no tax and quick/free delivery. Obviously you can't buy certain things that way but I use that all the time for certain items.

I’ve met both of you and neither is no better or no worse than the other. Both seem to be good people. Met Ford at a wrestling match in Auburn and met John G at J&M through my ex-BIL. But I’m just a nobody.

I'm a good size guy, at least b4 they put me on disability. Went Lowes and bought us a new washer and dryer, very next day, it crapped out. I called them, they said it would be at least 2 weeks, before there repair man, could get too us. I loaded it in the back of my truck by myself and walked to the return booth, and threw it in the floor. I proceeded to ask to speak to the manager. Needless to say I got one! Absolutely true story, ask my wife she sat in the truck humiliated. LMAO
