I do not hate cops, sheriffs or departments. My brother was killed in a jail cell. He was in for public intoxication. He was asleep in the back seat of a friends car. They asked him to step out and arrested him. Multiple witnesses said he was running his mouth at the jailer. The jailer choked him to death. My father looked at the body and recognized the marks of the choking. Other inmates confirmed what happened but were scared for their own safety and wouldn't testify. They all had the same story to us. I gotta admit. I had a straight up hard case of the hates for law enforcement for a while. The officer who did it and the chief that covered it up. They settled a lawsuit. I was pissed. Refused the money.
I wanted the cop dead and the chief ruined. Both eventually got just that. Both were dirty. Both crossed the wrong folk.
I was able to grow out of that hate and learn to forgive. I didn't blame them all. But I had a strong distaste for all of them. No trust.
I developed trust down the road, but never made bones about putting a cop in their place when they acted stupid (I was in the fire service and interacted daily. I made a few friends of the good ones.
Are some departments dirty? Absolutely and there is no shortage of proof of that. Lots of shady shit I've witnessed over the years.
Fire department has them too. As does ever profession on earth. But I do try to not lump them all into the same group. That's not right either.
I make exceptions on certain demographics. Some demographics of society are almost exclusively dirty and rotten. And those groups sometimes infiltrate good organizations.
