If a door-to-door salesman was standing on the sidewalk just in front of a homeowner's front porch, and the automated sprinkler system just happened to come on because it's scheduled to run intermittently, and because it is old and worn out and has to be readjusted periodically, it sprayed a little too far onto the sidewalk and totally by accident soaked the door-to-door salesman....would the homeowner have any legal liability? What if the saleman's phone/ipad/etc got wet in the process?

Totally just a hypothetical and asking for a friend

Not that I don't believe you, but can you back that up? (I know there are some attorneys here but don't remember who)

It would be cost prohibitive to sue you for what an Ipad costs.

If you are really concerned, just put up a sign that says "sprinkler system in use", homeowner not responsible for water damage!

We would of course love to see video footage, heck it might go viral and make you some serious $

Even the crooked lawyers wouldn't be interested in that one. Not enough money to be made.

Would it be any different if a sudden downpour soaked the perp and his electronic devices?

Get the F out of the BATFE. The F is guaranteed by the US Constitution. Those other letters are not.

If the door-to-door salesman accidentally got the snot beat out of him by a homeowner randomly swinging a shovel around and screaming "get off my lawn" would the homeowner be liable?

I mean if the salesman walked into a swinging shovel, how could the homeowner be liable? Most people are smart enough to duck the shovel and not let it hit them square in the face. However we’re talking about a salesman. 😂😂

I’d rather deal with a door to door salesman than damn spoofing telemarketers.

It's just water. Salesmen probably get rained on all the time. At least, I hope they do.

Life is a journey. Make sure and bring plenty of Beer.

My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.

It's really in the hands of the Judge and Lawyers. There's been many cases where trespassers have trespassed onto someones land, got hurt for whatever reason, and then sued AND WON for being in a place they shouldn't.

Pretty chitty to turn the water on someone out trying to make a living. Is it ok to start slapping the chit out of all salesmen? I know there are a lot of them on here.

If a mormon stuck his foot in your door while trying to stop you from closing it would you be liable? After you told him twice he's not allowed on your private property? rofl

I’m a salesman myself….18yrs in sales and counting. I have zero patience for bad/pushy salesmen, especially after they’ve completely ignored the “no soliciting” signs at the neighborhood entrance, I’ve told them “no” repeatedly, and they still won’t leave. So no, I don’t think it’s chitty to turn the water on them at that point

Im no legal expert, but it seems your out is the no soliciting signs at the entrance. Shouldnt have been there to begin with?
