My mom fell and broke her hip a week ago last friday. Hospital discharged her to a rehab place Monday. Put her in a room with a woman who was aparently half deaf who played her TV loud at all hours of the day and night. We complained numerous times, they did nothing. Mom said she would leave, they say, you can't that would be AMA, and none of your meds would be filled.

So after a week and a phone call, I call again. Get the director. Explain the situation. She says we are trying to find your mom a private room. I said, why can't you just go tell the woman she has to turn the TV down? Oh we can't do that, we can't talk to patients like they are children, they have rights. I said, how about talking to her like an adult, and telling her that she needs to be courteous? No we can't do that. I said let me ask you a question, if your mom was in the room with this woman, what would you tell your mom? She says, I would tell her the same thing I told you. I go, so you don't have quiet time, or lights out, or any standard at all in terms of being a disturbance? She says no. I said, well I don't believe that, but how about this? I am going to buy my mom a boom box, bring over there and plug it in, so she can play it at all hours of the day and night as loud as she wants to play it. Since she has rights and all that.

Well sir, we can discharge your mom if you would like. My sis showed up with her BOSE system, and took mom home. 84 years old, lost her husband of 62 years 5 weeks ago, and these lazy poor excuses for a feral human couldn't even turn the lady's TV when she was sound asleep, much less enforce some sort of quiet time or respect for people in a shared space.

To busy worrying about their Juneteenth shin dig.

Had a very similar experience w' my mom at her 2nd rehab stay. Get pissed off again just thinking about it. Short version: admin and staff don't care one bit. Hope and pray i go quietly in my sleep when my clock is up and I never need a place like that.

The 1st place she stayed was tolerable for her, but only because I got on them and stayed after 'em after explaing my expectations. They also tried harder 'cause they knew I could show up at any timre.

Lockjaw it’s actually called the ADA (American Disabilities Act) that those facilities are afraid of. I’ve seen folks of all color with their TV’s turned up so loud that you can’t hear yourself think. Unfortunately us normal people are run over due to accommodating the few.

When my dad was alive he checked himself out too. Worthless staff. Of course they don’t hire real nurses most of the time. An LPN at the most. You MAY actually find a place that has ONE RN on staff. Anyway, Pop told them he was leaving and they told him he couldn’t do that too. He said the hell I can’t. Told mom to get the car while he got dressed. Got his stuff and left. Refused to go back to the hospital after that for fear of them trying to put him in another facility. He lived about another 16 months and died in his sleep. Best way to go.

Did they both not have a remote for the TV? Did the TV not plug into the wall somewhere? I could've found a way to disable the TV some way.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

I would have gone there when the woman was sleeping and unplugged the tv and then snatched or cut the cord completely out of the tv. Problem solved. Hide the cord and remove it from premises.
