Have any of you ever leased land that had a rr track running thru it? A friend looked at a lease that has this, with no road crossing to get across it.
I know you're not supposed to hunt from the tracks, but do the rr folks concern theirselves with someone crossing over to go hunt on the other side? I've been told the surrounding landowners don't want to grant them access to get to the other side any other way. Just curious how others have handled this. thanks.

Hunted a big plantation in East Alabama that had a railroad running through part of the property. There was no road crossing the tracks but one leading up to it. We just parted there and walked across. We would cross the tracks with a truck/tractor/ATV if we needed to. They are good for scouting and finding out where the deer cross and then setting up in the wood off the ROW. Tracks provided a great way to get in to your stand without disturbing the bedding areas.

Poachers used to cross a big creek on the railroad trussell and hunt on us. I chased a guy for a half mile back across the trussell one time. Never figured out how they would get a deer out if they killed one.

I hav a traxk on my east border. Big field is only about 120 yards from it. That is the line - Never been all way to it.

We had a mile straight away on our lease before the state bought the land. Cut off by a large creek on one side and deep sloughs on the other. There was close to 400 acres only accessible by going up the tracks which isn’t legal. That said, there was an old fellow that had passed before I joined the club who, I heard, would hunt those tracks and if he killed a deer he’d build a hasty skid with a few tree trunks and rope and put it on the rails and just drag it down to the road. A four wheeler fits between the rails in a pinch but you won’t hear the train or the RR guys in the trucks while operating.
That track cuts off about 1 acre of my property in a corner but I only cross it to fish sometimes.

When I was a teen in the eighties my father was in a Marengo county club that had tracks that cut the 3000 acres in half.

At sign in time, the spots on the railroad were the first to get picked. My dad shot a lot of deer sitting on the tracks.

Yeah, I know it's illegal, but it's good hunting.

We have a decommissioned RR on our place. They pulled the tracks up and cut down the trestles. It’s a great spot to hunt.

Rr tracks are my absolute favorite way of hunting deer. I grew up with tracks behind my house. Deer will go up and down creeks and trussels making for great bow stands. Mature deer will come from their bedding and parallel the RR tracks making scrapes, checking for does that crossed, and picking up acorns without crossing MOST times. One side or the other will always be best. Does and young bucks will pick up acorns in the ditches on the side of the tracks. They are magnets in my experience.

Maybe hunt as near as legally possible with a bow? I use to hunt where Appache Copters and Blackhawk use to fly over so close it would shake the trees. Helipad nearby constantly training. Cool to see the guy with the door open looking out. Never saw a deer when they where flying around there, deer seem to hate copters there.

I have the same thing running through one of my leases very good hunting

Growing up in Pensacola, there was a Concrete Plant right next to Railroad tracks. We used to wear out the dove and pigeons there.
