Reading threads on here relating to land & timber make me cringe.
It really makes me doubt 95% of the information that gets posted regarding other topics.
Especially on topics in which I’m not educated.

I’ve never seen a property thats been cut, whether thinned or cleared, that there weren’t numerous empty 5 gallon hydraulic fluid buckets, and blown out tires left behind, after the workers were gone. I’ve also never seen a crew that fulfilled their promise to repair the roads. I have , I know two up here that don't leave a mess , cut what they're supposed to , leave the roads in good shape, etc. They get the best tracts too.

Too many people spend money they don't have , on things they don't need, to impress people they don't know.

I just had 15 acres of 20+ year loblolly that has been thinned as it should, clear cut. My adjacent neighbors had a thinning. So 15 acres of pine logs and another 15-20sh acres thinned. In Houston county I got $23.50/ton for pine logs. Pulp wood was pretty much nothing at $2.50/ton. I haven’t gotten my numbers back yet but my consultant says I MAY have had one load of pulp. Everything else was logs.
I used a forestry consultant out of Opelika.

Good luck finding anyone that will even return your calls with that small property. I’ve got 22+ acres and I’ve been ghosted by 3 outfits. Can’t seem to find any interest. Forestry consultant struck out as well and gave up

The crew that just left my place didn’t leave much behind except wood debris.

I’ve also never seen a crew that fulfilled their promise to repair the roads. Last summer we thinned several hundred acres across five tracts and had zero hydraulic buckets or tires left behind. A couple of random pieces of trash like the cap of a tube of grease or a shop rag but that would fill less than a plastic grocery bag. Our timber buyer sent a dozer back to blade the roads and fix the water bars. They are not perfect but you have to realize that modern mechanized logging is going to leave a mess. The good news is that Mother Nature is resilient and does a pretty good job of getting back to being productive.
"Cull" is just another four letter word...

A neighbor up the road from me in Elmore county just had some pines cut on 25 acres so somebody will cut it if you can find them I guess.
