Absolutely Type 1 is an unfortunate auto immune disease and man I hate it for you guys. The hard part to say to friends and family is that Type 2 diabetes is something you do to yourself. Poor diet discipline over years has forced insulin resistance and big pharma loves you for it.

You can totally reverse it if you can radicalize yourself to the psychological and emotional connection to food you grew up with. Start thinking of a meal as a necessary burden like stopping at the gas station in your truck. I don’t cook or eat for pleasure, ever. You can live very healthy on sardines, eggs, meat, nuts, vitamin supplements and psyllium husk fiber if you don’t like salads without dressing. Eat once a day or maybe sometimes not at all for a day or two fast. Give it a year and you’ll get your insulin control back and be off all meds.

It’s ok if that trade off isn’t worth it to you. You’ll be the weird guy in your friend group but you’ll likely outlive all of them.
