I’m type 2 diabetic, and honestly haven’t taken it very seriously, until now. I went to a dr visit and my A1C was 8.9. The dr put me on Jardiance and wants me to take the Ozempic shot once weekly, I’m scared to death of that. I would really like to avoid that shot, but she says it’s needed to bring my A1C down. Does anyone have any experience with it, good or bad, for diabetes? I’m struggling with this. Thanks, Robinhedd

On a positive note, I did check my fasting blood sugar level at 126 this morning, a lot better than the 203 level when I went to said Dr. visit!

Why are you scared of the shot?

I've been Type 2 for a few years now and have only been 1000mg Metformin ER twice daily and nothing else. My fasting level is usually in the 130 range and rarely do I get above 150 a couple of hours after eating. My A1C hovered around 5 to 6 for a few years and now I'm in the 7ish range. When first diagnosed, my sugar was 175. I'm also on the Carnivore diet and have lost 40 pounds. Want to lose 40 more. I don't eat any sweets, no bread, barely any carbs and just try to stay on as much protein as I can. The neuropathy in my feet is not anywhere near as bad as it used to be but does come and go.

There are several diabetes drugs on then market and I'd ask why the doc wants me on those particular ones. Press for hard facts/answers.

I have been taking Metformin 1000mg twice a day but just had mine cut to once a day. My A1C originally was 7.9 but is now dpwn to 5.1. My asting sugar runs 102-108. Don't want no shots!!!! just pretty eliminated sweets and no bread. Lost from 224 down to 196. Luckily mine is under control. I WOULD REALLY LOVE A BIG FAT CINAMON ROLL THOUGH.

Hell, I'm a Type 1 diabetic. Take 5 shots a day. (2 different insulins) Been doing it for 36 years now.

Just watch your diet, and don't sweat the rest.

That diet change will help a bunch, but it’s hard to reverse insulin resistance. Even with fasting. I’m not a fan of metformin either

Ozempic, Monjauro, etc are developed and produced for type 2 diabetes. 8.9 is up there…take the shots. They will help get your number down, quicker and quicker is better, in this case.
Aside from weight loss, some also help other systems (heart, kidneys, liver).

Ozempic etc isn’t the devil if you have an underlying condition like type 2. It should be coupled with exercise and proper eating. Don’t eat out of a box and reduce carbs (bread, sugars, etc). My sugar intake comes primarily from fruits.

I got off all the meds. I don't eat Rice, Bread or other high carb foods. Exception is potatos in limited quantity.

Many of my meals are meat only. Or meat and low carb veggies. Not saying I can't have bread or carbs ever, but very limited.

Tossed the Metformin when I saw it contributes to neuropathy. That was my main symptom and complaint.

I've been doing treatment for over a year for the neuropathy. NerveSpa Pro twice a day for 30 minutes. Followed by Infrared treatment 6 minutes per foot twice a day.

I've kind hit a wall on those helping. But also I'm not as consistent when busy as I am when slow.

Methylene Blue started a few weeks ago and that made a noticeable difference.

Progressed from numbness up to my ankles to tingles and pain returning, sporadically, as the nerves come back online. Can't say I enjoy that, but I know it's healing when it happens.

I'd say they're about 90% of what they were before the treatments. The diagnosis before treatment was pretty bad, close to a record per the doc. I was stumbling, falling, unbalanced constantly. Toe drop was real bad.

None of that for a long long time now. So it's working.

I generally try to avoid breakfast. Eat no carb lunch around 1ish. Eat low carb dinner by 6 and nothing after that. Provides the best result.

You can control type 2 with diet if you want to, but most people don’t want it bad enough. I’ve been doing it since 2020. Feel free to pm me if you want

One was about the same. About five years ago. Started metformin. Nope. Didn’t work. Made me feel terrible.
Got on Januvea. Hangs out around 130 in mornings. About six months ago tried ozempic. For three weeks I was miserable.
I’d throw up every day. Have the scours. Feel horrendous and the nastiest sulphur burps you’ve ever smelled or tasted. . They said my body would start to get used to it. Nope. I was on death doorstep.
Back on januvia. Then about a month and a half ago I tried the monjaro. Not as bad as the ozempic. But. Still bad. Took it one time and quit. Back to januvia.
I went to an endincrinologist last week. She has me on jaerdence. I think the same thing you said. Started at ten. This week I am at 20mg.
I ain’t 100% but may have slight side effects with this dose. Gonna give it time. But sugar still 130 in the morning.
My main thing is I’m tired when I get home. I need to be walking or some kind of cardio and eating a little better.
The shots ain’t nothing if you don’t have side effects. I know plenty of folks on it.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

My phone screen does not always work right, usually a lot of misspelled words....

Don’t mess around with it. I can tell you that a lot of folks lose their vision from diabetes. I keep the local retina specialist busy with at least 2-3 referrals a week for edema and bleeding in the retina directly caused by diabetes. Diabetic retinopathy is not something you want. The treatment is shooting lasers in the eye and/or giving you shots in the eyeball every 2-4 months.

You got this man!

Ever thought about the insulin pump? My wife is Type 1 and her A1C is around 6 to 6.5. She uses the Medtronic pump.

You need to get real serious about this if you want a better quality of life for you and your family. It starts with diet and exercise. Trust your doc.

Looked into it, but never pulled the trigger. I think I'm too old now to switch up my habits.

I was taking metformin for years. Thought my stomach was just easily upset! Doctor wanted to take me off it and started me on Ozempic a couple of years ago. It knocked my A1C down to 5.5 to 5.7. Plus dropped 40 plus pounds off from it. It took me around three months to get used to it. But the bad symptoms are gone and also the constant diarrhea from the Metformin is gone.
I forgot to state I am a type 2 Diabetic.
