Y'all give me the low down on Spectrum.

They have been working 2-3 years getting our community set up with fiber.

It's all ready now and they are taking new customers.

I currently have T-Mobile Home Internet that has worked pretty good until 2-3 months ago and it crapped out.

Stream my tv through YouTube TV.

Couple of months ago my T-Mobile internet just quit working. New gateway from them solved nothing. It hardly ever works now. A tech tells me we are right in the middle of a dead zone for service and that it should have never worked to start with.

We have no tv, no wifi, nothing works 95% of the time. Been that way for 2-3 months now.

Looking at giving Spectrum a try.

Give me the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Like most they'll lock you in a rate and then a year or so later bam, "promotion" has expired here's a $300 a month bill that we hope you have auto drafted so you won't realize.

what are the advertised new customer prices??

if all you do is use it for wifi and streaming id highly recommend looking into starlink.

spectrum will tell you that the fiber they run is a dedicated fiber to you but its not.

I’ve had Spectrum for years, at three different addresses. Over the last 15 years or so.. there was one period of a few months where I was constantly losing connection, and that was bad for me since I worked from home. But they seemed to eventually figure it out after many, many calls. I’ve had them here for the last 3.5 years and hardly ever an outage. If it is out, chances are the power is too.

Their rates creep up over time, like everyone else. But you can usually call them and negotiate it back down.

Their speed is definitely way above any cellular service. With a 1 gig package you can have a lot of users or do big huge downloads very quickly.

But while my experience has almost always been great, some people have terrible experience. It seems to be locality based. I’ve been fortunate to always have good service with them, others say it’s crap.

I’d just give them a try and see. It’s not contract service so you can always cancel. Me personally, I’d jump on it. My sister just recently text me and told me that they can finally get it in Alpine and I told her to jump on it.

I would NEVER recommend anyone take Starlink over Spectrum. Starlink is much higher per mb/s than spectrum. You can get 1GB service at full price with Spectrum for what 300-400mb service costs with Starlink, or less. That only makes sense if you are a light user AND you travel a lot with RV’s and stuff.

Also I’m speaking purely on internet service. I don’t do any television with them or anything one else. I have a few streaming services but that’s it. I’m not on promotional price and I’m paying $100/mo for 1GB.

Just went with Starlink as it was the only viable option for me. Service is ok so far, but we've only had it for a month. Business practice is another matter. We "had to" subscribe at the highest package, $120/month, due to coverage patterns and Elon's imposed limited availibility. They began billing us before equipment arrived and was installed for the monthly subscription. Before service started, we received notice that the monthly rate was jumping to $130. Service is fine, but I wish there were other options. Looking at the bigger picture, pretty happy with where we live so putting up with Starlink may just be the cost of doing business.

We had the same deal through Mediacom last year. Part of the "rural internet" initiative.

We signed up for it up front, and quite frankly, it's been phenomenal. I have 2gig down, 1 gig up service. Lightning fast, and it's only been down twice in the last year. $80/month with 2 year price guarantee.

I kept my T-Mobile Home Internet as a backup (only pay $20/month), and have it set up on an Eero mesh system to automatically failover if Mediacom goes out.

If they do the same deal that Mediacom did, if you get in on the front end, there are zero upfront costs. Even if we had decided to not subscribe in the beginning, they would still have run the fiber to my house at no cost if requested, which would have saved down the road if I signed up at a later date.

I have not had much issue with Spectrum.
I believe it depends on your local area infrastructure as to who would be the best.
I only have internet.

Starlink is good. Started out at 39/month then went to 55 for no reason
Lightning got the power supply two weeks ago. Been waiting since then for a replacement. Was supposed to be here Friday, but still haven’t seen it

Exactly what Dr. Matt says above. They give you this great beginning rate for a year or so on the contract and as soon as the contract is up, they'll surprise with a bill that is hugely higher than what you've been paying. You then have to call them and fight with India or Pakistan or somewhere and they might knock your contract price down to $250 from $350 when a month go it was $125

The Selma Council and Mayor gave them exclusive rights to the City so they had no competition on Cable TV and when you bundled your phone and internet with the TV, it wasn't bad at first. Then the contracts end. The people in Selma, including myself, complained about this to any municipal elected official that would listen. Everyone, to a person, said that was not right and vowed to do something about it and get some competition in there. It would even be on the Council meetings agendas. Then suddenly, like magic, the whole issue disappeared and their kids bragged about all the cool channels they got on their TV...............Figure it out.

One thing that I do not miss from Selma is Charter/Spectrum.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Billy, how many neighbors between you and the nearest main road? I ask because CATV services are built/provided on a HPPM schedule ( Houses Passed Per Mile). Unfortunately this can also turn into how they dole out maintenance. Just a few homes/just a little maintenance. BUT, fiber is very reliable. and it's either working or not unless a very rare equipment issue has a glitch. All that being said, I'd try it but beat them down to a no contract trial period. I'm on Spectrum copper and have been for a long time and it works great with only an occasional hiccup, BUT I'm in an area within a couple of miles of business customers and they make sure this leg stays up and operational. Farmers Telco ran fiber through here a few years or so ago and I believe it's $100 a month. I'm paying $90 and just haven't decided that switching is worth another $10 and that's coming from a 49 year telecom career guy.

I hate Spectrum. They constantly raised the rates and service was very unreliable. We put up with them a few years before we moved. We have Starlink now. We've only had it a couple months so I can't give a long range assessment but I'm happy so far. My only complaint would be they forced me into the highest priced plan (now $130.00) by only offering it in my area.

I have lived in two houses and had Spectrum. The first house I had nothing but problems, and spectrum never could get it fixed and I went another route. The second house, I was reluctant to use them but my neighbor did and said he never had problems. I ended up using them for a few years and didn't have any problems, but I had another option come available for less money so I went that route.

Every year they will raise your rate by as much as 50%, and you will have to call and threaten to cancel to get them to lower the rate. That is really aggravating.

My parents only option is Spectrum, and they have had problems for 15 plus years and spectrum can't/won't fix it. Several businesses and even some of the doc offices in Alabaster use Spectrum and they have left them hanging for days at a time, with no solution in site.

When it works, it works, when it doesn't, most of the time Spectrum can't help.

had spectrum for 20 years about 13 years of adjusting signal, works flawless now. Any company is gonna have technical issues. once the deals fade out your locked into a higher price then they will offer new service for free to lock you into another high price and when you go down in service the price is still higher. try to get a lifetime price or multi year deal. we recently got spectrum streaming back and it's pure garbage with drag shows and lgbt stuff pushed to the forefront, even apple isn't that bad so I got to cancel that and tell them. for phone we just went to OOMA for $8 a month.

Mine worked fairly well for a year then went to crap.

T-MOBILE has no idea now why it won't work anymore.

It is frustrating as all get out.
