Fell and broke her hip friday. Exactly 4 weeks from my dad's passing. She had to have a partial hip replacement, and is being difficult. Told the nurses she just wants to go home and die.
Not an exciting concept, watching both your parents just stop eating and drinking and wither away into nothing.
My dad had medical issues, so I understand his situation, my mom just lacks the willpower and desire to overcome her injury. My sis was pretty frank about that being selfish.
Adulting is rough sometimes.

Sorry to hear that. Happens a lot when a long married couple loses their significant other. They just lose the will to live, without them. Support her, keep her busy and occupied, and try to keep her spirits up.

I had the same situation with my mom years ago when she fell and broke her hip. When I took her to the Orthopedic office for a check up she told me she wanted to die while we were waiting on the doctor. It is so painful to listen to your mom say that, but you also understand how she could feel that way. When she broke her hip she shattered it and the prognosis was not good, but somehow she struggled back.

Prayers for you and your mom. 🙏 It’s hard when they get older. Dealing with my mom between her CLL and arthritis problems. Hip is bone on bone trying to see if she’s a candidate for hip replacement at 82. Always something. Mine has the same doom and gloom outlook. I think they get old and feel helpless and useless and say things like they want to die that they really don’t mean. My mom has made similar I’m useless and just want to die which is probably because she was always strong and in control of everything. She hates having to rely on me for groceries, doctor visits and similar. Stay strong for your family and your mom.🙏

It’s tough. My dad has been gone just over 6 years and my mom has outlived all of her siblings, cousins, etc…. She’s the only one to ever make it past 76 years old, as she is 81. She tells me all the time that she prays every night to go to sleep and not wake up. How do you even respond to that?

Age, Injury and being displaced from their normal routine is very difficult for the wonderful aged group some health care folks will call it "sundowners" I went through it with my 99 yo Mother when she feel and broke her hip, she had times when she was just plain mean. With the advice from oddly enough my Orthopedic surgeon he said give her tasks as simple as folding clothes, or in my case a wonderful CNA would bring her towels to fold which kept her busy and changed her attitude, I also found that if I would agree with anything she said it would keep her at peace. I feel for you and pray for you it's difficult and I wish you peace
