The CB in Athens managed to make a bad pancake breakfast. That was my last meal in a CB about 5 years ago.

An electrician who did some repairs in that kitchen said he’d never eat there again.

Heck I stopped on the south parkway of Huntsville a couple of weeks ago and bought some tomatoes as he was selling produce. He had a tip jar set up. 6 dollars for a small basket of tomatoes is tip enough

As RCHRR said about being CRAPPER BARELL, for me 45 minutes is tops until the urge hits, and normally it is bad. Haven't punished myself in about 3 years

I avoid subway because of the tipping thing.
Subway is fast food, I won't be tipping McDonald's, KFC, burger king, publix deli, or any other fast food, subway included.

This tipping crap has gotten out of hand.

At the beach a few weeks ago and took the grandkids out for ice cream at a local shop.

Prompted me to tip there.

Stupid.

One of our sons works at a snow cone place and tips really help out. Even if ends up averaging a half dollar per customer per shift, that makes a huge difference in what he brings home. Helping pay vehicle maintenance/insurance/gas and taking a girl out once a week is a lot... and his shifts are only 4-5 hours at a time.

Any time I'm paying somewhere and they flip/spin an ipad around at me to pay, I know I'm about to be prompted to tip for something that we've never traditionally tipped for before...

My rule of thumb is I only tip if I have a server coming to my table to take my order, refill drinks, etc.

I don't tip fast food/quick service. I don't tip if I order/pay at a counter. I don't tip if I get my own drink from a self-service machine. I don't tip on pickup/to-go orders.

The price on the menu is for the food (and that includes the food prep, you Subway folks). A tip is for service....if you're not providing me with a service, I'm not providing you with a tip, and I refuse to be guilted about it.

Google said Cracker Barrel does about 2.7 billion is restaurant sales yearly. The 270 million in taxes at 10% (i don't know what other states charge). So if people average 20% tip through the selection prompt, Cracker Barrel is raking in an extra $54 mil a year. They did not "accidentally" calculate tips with taxes included, they are taking advantage of people intentionally.

As someone who waited tables when I was in school, cash is king when it comes to tipping, as it can be non-reported income. Try to leave cash whenever possible.

Yup. A proper tip is a cash tip.

i saw a thing on FB the other day that gave tipping in intructions. Move the decimal place to the right 1 place. Then multiply that number by 4, and that's the tip. So 40%, along with the prerequisite if you can't afford to tip, you can't afford to eat out.

I would follow that with, if you can't afford to live on normal waitstaff wages and tips, you need to find another job.

Amen

I can remember when Cracker Barrel was good groceries.
I was held prisoner of war up in Pennsylvania back in the late 1900's and I'd venture down to a cracker barrel for sustenance. Had good cabbage, pintos were seasoned, could eat your weight in cornbread and biscuits.
Can't remember the last time I cast a shadow in one.

I'm a CB patron about twice a year. Always consistently good. I always get the same thing. Sampler platter never disappoints

I've always said the same thing.

Life is a journey. Make sure and bring plenty of Beer.

My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.

Nope with a capital N. The quality and or quantity of service determines the size of the tip I leave. It's always cash. Occasionally it's nonexistent. Occasionally it's more than the ticket. My server gets to decide which way that goes. I have left a penny before just to make sure they understood.
