Did you know that Iran worked with and assisted Bin Laden (security, money, training, logistics) in numerous activities from the initial rise of Al-Qaeda all the way up to when we were hunting him after the attack.

Early Training and Support: In the early 1990s, when bin Laden was based in Sudan, al-Qaeda and Iran established an informal working relationship. Intelligence and court documents indicate that Iran and its proxy, Hezbollah, provided explosives, intelligence, and security training to al-Qaeda operatives. This training was cited in a 2011 U.S. federal court ruling as material support for the 1998 U.S. Embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania.Pre-9/11

Transit Facilitation: The 9/11 Commission Report concluded that Iran facilitated the transit of al-Qaeda members into and out of Afghanistan before the September 11 attacks. Iranian border guards were reportedly instructed not to stamp the passports of al-Qaeda operatives to conceal their travel. Evidence suggests that 8 to 10 of the "muscle" hijackers for 9/11 transited through Iran between October 2000 and February 2001, though the Commission found no direct evidence Iran had foreknowledge of the 9/11 plot itself.

Safe Haven and Logistics: Following the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan in 2001, hundreds of al-Qaeda fighters, operatives, and members of bin Laden’s family fled into Iran. While the Iranian government placed some of these figures under a form of house arrest, it simultaneously allowed al-Qaeda to use Iran as a logistical artery to transfer funds and personnel.
