My yard, and subsequently my garden, have been absolutely infested with fire ants for a while. I bought a 40g tractor sprayer and sprayed bifenthrin 7.9% all through the yard and on my muscadines and blueberries BUT mine are all planted this year and not bearing.
The bifen definitely knocked down the general population but new mounds are still popping up so I’ve been sprinkling them with Amdro bait granules. It seems to be working well.
If you aren’t directly spraying the plants, I would say do a “drench” of each mound with the bifen. You could also use the amdro granules just sprinkled all around the garden that they’ll take back, eat, and die.
If you do want to spray your plants, Sevin is the spray I would use. It has a harvest schedule on the label saying how many days ahead of harvest you can spray it. Some stuff is only 1 day, some stuff might say 14 days. But it’s what I would use.
