I can't believe y'all think they are necessary.. freakin nut less men! Red flag laws ..sure! Patriot act ... sounds reasonable. Covid vax mandate..its for the good of society. Some of y'all will roll over for anything big brother pushes on us. Every red blooded man should be fighting back against these things.

I had all of the things you mentioned long before the need for data centers.

Data centers are not new; the compute demand is just getting MUCH greater

I figure the increase in them is due to AI and systems such as FLOCK. If they want to do away with that, fine by me.

FLOCK camera systems do not require a relatively heavy amount of compute power and storage; AI is here and going to propagate and requires the large hyperscaler data centers.

Mostly there already. I don't think that's what the data centers are popping up for though. Things were just fine without them.

The big question that keeps popping up, here, is where does the toxic(?) wastewater from the cooling process go? Second is if they’re getting water from the river, will it cause a more permanent barge issue, since water used in the cooling process mostly evaporates?
I’ve heard one planned in the north Delta is on a former ag field with a couple of irrigation wells on it and will actually use less water than irrigating the field did, but again the water used is mostly evaporated and what’s left isn’t useable, instead of going back into the aquifer to use again.

The ordinance they passed in Birmingham requires a "closed loop" cooling system as one of the requirements for permitting . Will have to do some research on that?

A closed-loop cooling system in a data center is a sealed, self-contained mechanism that continuously recycles a fixed volume of cooling fluid (usually water or a specialized refrigerant) to regulate equipment temperatures. Unlike traditional open-loop evaporative systems that constantly boil off and replenish millions of gallons of municipal water, a closed-loop system is filled just once during construction and experiences near-zero day-to-day fluid consumption
How It WorksThe system acts much like a high-powered household air conditioner or a car's radiator circuit
:Heat Capture: Cold liquid or air is circulated directly past the server chips or server racks via cold plates, absorbing the intense thermal energy.
Transport: The now-heated fluid is pumped through an entirely sealed network of internal pipes away from the IT equipment.
Heat Rejection: The fluid passes through an external heat exchanger or a "dry cooler". Large outdoor fans blow ambient air across the coils to pull the heat out and release it into the atmosphere without any evaporation.
Recirculation: The cooled fluid is pumped straight back to the servers to restart the loop

Everybody worried about oil. The aquafers out west are already going dry, from big ag irrigation. Now well pull water from the rivers to cool data centers, then we'll say cow farts are causing glibal warming. Just another high light of human stupidity

Im confused on this topic as well and admit don't really understand the ins and outs but my first assumption is it probably doesn't benefit us in the long run unless its to manage a currency of some sort i have no idea other than that maybe

Lowndes County has a proposed data center with closed loop. Said they will need no more then 100,000 gallons of water daily. Still a big stain on the aquifrr. I can't wait until a drought and water restricting. You can't eat data

They want to build one on the Cahaba. Get this: "Even when water is returned, a large portion is permanently lost to the atmosphere. Because up to 60% of the water withdrawn can evaporate during the cooling tower process, the volume returned to the river is significantly less than what was originally withdrawn, which can reduce the river's base flow."

That will cut down a lot on the Cahaba flow and maybe endanger the Cahaba wildlife.

You seem to have a very close relationship with these data centers. Care to expound upon your perceived 'involvement' in them?
