Is anyone getting in on the IPO? Thinking about it, but not sure I want to pull the trigger. Some analysts think it will drop below the $135/sh offer price.

There are enough pre-IPO commitments that will probably keep that from happening, even if it does happen it wont be that way for long. Plus, Elon and the team have several post IPO plans lined up that will get a lot of investors excited. A new solar panel fabrication plant was just announced a few days ago for the Houston area presumably to fill SpaceX orders.

I don’t have any more free cash to invest this year. My son is going to I think. I listened to an interview yesterday that said space x would most likely buy Tesla eventually (merge). I have no idea whether it will go up or down initially, but it can’t be a bad long term investment. Imo

I'm definitely going to try to get some, nothing huge, maybe 2% position.

Better read up on it on your brokerage firm. It’s out of our league on Schwab.
Minimum of 100,000 account maintained.
Several hoops to jump through for the IPO.
My son may look at a few ETF’s that have exposure tonight.

Fidelity has lowered the minimum account balance requirement for its retail customers to participate in the SpaceX Initial Public Offering (IPO) to $2,000, a significant reduction from the typical $100,000–$500,000 thresholds. This change is possible because SpaceX is allocating up to 30% of its 555.6 million Class A shares to retail investors, compared to the usual 5–10%, with an offering price of $135 per share.

To participate, eligible customers must submit an Indication of Interest (IOI) for between 1 and 1,000,000 shares; final allocations are determined by a lottery system if demand exceeds supply. Fidelity enforces a strict "flipping" rule that prohibits selling shares within the first 15 calendar days of trading. Violating this rule results in escalating penalties: a 6-month ban for the first offense, a 1-year ban for the second, and a permanent ban tied to the customer's Social Security Number for a third offense.

I thought about it but decided to pass for now.

That's what I have, a Fidelity account. Thinking about selling off some of my ROTH IRA money, but I would only be buying 20 shares. Probably not enough to matter.

Seems like everytime I get $ out of the fund I am in, it doesn't perform as well.

I'm not sure what the thresholds are for E-trade, but I was able to submit an offer to participate in the IPO. I had to list the number of shares I wanted and what my limit price was. I set the limit at $250 per share, so hopefully I will get a slice. It's going to be interesting watching that one open. I would expect extreme volatility in that name for several years.

I would rather they let me set a total invested limit vs a price per share limit, that way I would get it regardless of price per share.

Everyone should keep in mind that there will be a HUGE volume of shares from pre-IPO private investors unlocked for sale in about 6 months.

While it could very well go to the moon because “Musk”, on paper it’s not a great investment in the traditional sense. They don’t make nearly the revenue and lack of profit to justify the price.

If I qualified and I was just flush with extra cash sure I’d throw $5000 in there just to see what happens but if I’m working OT to pay the bills or I’m 50+ and gotta reallocate retirement I’d stay away.

Everyone is hoping for it to mimic TESLA but even TESLA’s stock price has never made sense. It’s all “speculative”.

Definitely a gamble but who knows which way it will go.

Yep, Tesla valuation is more than all the other car companies worldwide combined.
SpaceX at IPO price valuation will be more than the entire U.S. aerospace industry(Boeing, Raytheon, Lockheed, etc.) combined.

Agreed, the huge IPOs coming down the pipe are not valued the way most companies are and probably are not deserving of anywhere near where they will trade, but the potential future earnings is pretty staggering. I'm going to buy a very small slice and just forget about. If it goes to zero, it will have no impact on my finances. I'll probably do the same with Anthropic when it goes.
