Any of Ya’ll have any experience with the Scag Turf Tiger 2? I am looking at getting a new commercial zero turn mower and have an eye on the Scag Turf Tiger 2. I have about 16 acres of flat open field I will be using the commercial zero turn mower for this. From my research I have done it seems the Scag Turf Tiger 2 will be what I am looking for in cutting thicker grass and can handle it. I will cut this every 2 weeks so the grass will not have a chance to get real thick (Bahia grass). Any other brand mowers that can handle this task and not be overloaded and torn up doing this task? TIA

If you are cutting only every 2 weeks, I guess you aren't really trying to manicure it. I would consider a rear discharge deck. Most week disagree. They leave a cut almost a good as a side discharge. Handle thick grass better. Don't get you near as dirty. And I believe require a little less HP, so the same hp would feel stronger in a rear discharge. Just my $0.03

Oh. As far as mowers, I have a Hustler Super z hyperdrive. I bought a scag Cheetah II last year or before. I preferred my Hustler. Sold the scag

I’m guessing you have a lawn business thus my idea is in direct competition but if I had 16 acres of flat, my cheapass would find someone to grow hay on it and not have to pay to cut it

Depending on time of year and rain amount, the acres of grass I mow can be mown every 2 weeks, every week or sometimes every 4 days depending on the growth. I mulch and currently have a John Deere 960M commercial zero-turn and it has plenty of power. 60" cutting, 72" is difficult to maneuver in some spots. Before this mower I had a commercial Gravely Zero-turn Pro-160 and it would also handle cutting without issue. My neighbor has the Scag Tiger and likes it as well.

I think any of the higher-end commercial zero-turn mowers are well built. I would choose a brand based on good dealer servicing close by.

Bahia grass can grow a lot in two weeks and many mowers will require two passes to get the seed stubs down. I run 60” Hustler Super Zs both with Velocity decks(which I like better than the standard fab deck designs) and one with a mulch kit. Mulch kit leaves the prettier cut but the sneeze out the front will leave you covered in fine dust.
If I didn’t have these I’d be looking hard at the Scag Turf Tiger or the Kubota ZD line. But I don’t think the kubotas come with the velocity decks. Turf Tigers do.

Get a smaller tractor. Lots of Kubota's a couple of years old, for a good price. They usually come with a finishing mower or bush hog. Depends on the terrain.

Kubota BX for sure. We have a 2360 that we bought new in 2012. We use it to mow food plots, the yard, rough clearing, whatever. 2 sets of replacement blades, regular maintenance, one set of gauge wheels, and one battery since 2012.

I looked at the same mower and ultimately went with the John Deere 960m. Pretty comparable mower, but much more dealer support with Deere. So that was my reason behind it. Mine has the 31hp engine. Made by Kawasaki. It'll cut thick stuff at a pretty good pace. The cost is really comparable. No regrets as of yet. I cut several rental properties every 2 weeks. 3 apartment complexes, probably another 15-20 quadplexes, duplexes and houses. I feel like ride quality is very important. I run twills and z glides on mine. I think ferris has and the Spartan higher end mowers have pretty good suspension systems. I wouldn't count them out either.

I have this mower in a 52” cut. It’s been a great mower. No problems with it. I think we’ve had it 7 years or so. Close to 450 hrs on it. We cut approx 4-5 acres weekly. Actually my wife has taken possession of it and I’m not allowed much on it. I keep the oil and filters changed, blades changed and it she goes.

We have a Tiger Cat II with a 61" Velocity deck. Love the cut, the speed, and the adjustable suspension seat! I might would like a slightly smaller deck a little better...our yard isn't smooth and flat, so there are places where the 61" deck gouges some. The mower itself, though, is thoroughly mechanically sound. Do your part with regular maint., and it'll do its' part as the last mower you ever have to buy. You might have to repower it in 20 years or so, but the Tiger Cat II is a commercial model mower, and it's built to last.

Yes Sir! It is 16 acres of flat open field that has been has been mowed for 40 years. It was mowed by Us with a finishing mower for most of that time. Then the past couple of years We have not been cutting it nearly but every 6 weeks or so and I use a bush hog. I am looking for something to cut it that moves much faster that can handle cutting g the field every 2 weeks.I want to make sure a Scag Turf Tiger 2 or equivalent mower would be up to this task and be able to handle it.Thanks to all for the advice!

Diesel Kubota zero turn no questions asked 16 acres will wear out a gas engine quick especially if you get behind a couple times the Kubota will cut it like butter every time. My neighbor has a similar setup and without his Kubota he’d be out in a tractor when it rains like it has been

Why bother with keeping it as lawn if you’re not a paid lawn service doing what a client pays for and get a farmer to cut it for free for hay a few times a year????

This just seems like a total waste of time and money.

60” comercial zero turn will run circles around a tractor……literally.
I have no experience with a scag mower. I have a husky pzt-60 that’s still going strong.

The scag mowers are fine mowers, i prefer the suspension of the gravely mower, but thats my preference. I will say this about scag, my son has a lawn care business and has 2 scag mowers, he has had to weld up holes in his deck twice. These are commercial mowers and the thick decks.

If time is an issue and money isn't, go for the 104" Hustler or 144" exmark.

If power is the biggest concern, Ferris 48 hp. diesel

I don't think I would get less than a 72" deck if it were me. Again, I would recommend the rear discharge. It's likely your finish mower was rear discharge anyway.

I got my eye on one myself. I have a 2010 exmark 60 inch that has been a boss!! Where have you found your best deal T?
