I have an overgrown area that is low and it has exploded with new growth maple and briars-You name it and it’s probably growing there. I need this cleaned up, especially the new woody growth. What do I need to spray this with to get it gone. The low area makes it hard to get a tractor in there to bushhog.

Depending on what you’re trying to protect, if anything, I’d be cautious using imazapyr. It has soil activity that can last weeks to months depending on the application rate. For general brush control using foliar active herbicides I go with 8 oz of glyphosate, 1 oz of Triclopyr 4 and 1 oz of 80/20 surfactant per gallon on spot spraying. The Triclopyr will kill blackberry and most hardwoods. There’s no reason to apply 2 oz per gallon. That’s a very high application rate.

There are 3 large Silver Maples that I wish were dead there. They are at least 50 years old. They will fend for themselves as I will be spraying all around them to kill their offspring. If they did they die-good riddance. This area is always wet until July rolls around and then it sounds like a war when the bushing has to beat the saplings to death.

I use 2 oz of triclopyr and 2-3 Oz of 24d when spot spraying. Since your doing an area I would be cautious of nuking everything (grasses) if there is any chance of soil erosion. Unless thats what you want.

This area I want to kill is a fence, property line border. There is a ditch that only has water after extended wet times. The ditch runs perpendicular to the fence so you are looking at a T shaped area. One side of the ditch is higher ground and we can keep it cut with no issues. The other side of the ditch is the problem area where the low area holds water and grows every type of vegetation you can think of. I have a couple of 50+ year old Silver Maples that I don’t care if they died. When a limb falls or breaks it really makes a mess to clean up. A tornado hit this spot 2 years ago and really made a mess. I’m just trying to get the place cleaned up.
I plan to start spraying this area as soon as the rain stops. I have fixed a sprayer for my ATV and plan on driving over and pushing down all the small trees I can and spray as I go. For the larger ones I will spray with a wand attached to the sprayer. All the other places on this farm are clean and are maintained the way my Daddy asked me to. It’s a lot of work keeping a place clean! Thanks so much for all the replies.

I had some growth like that on my place and used the RM43 at tractor supply. It’s expensive but it worked. Haven’t had anything like that come back in 2yrs now. I mixed 5oz/gal

Whatever that crap the timber co sprays, it kills everything. But it grows back next year. My clear cut is going to be a deer factory now!!

For the folks mixing Triclopyr and Glyphosate, are you using Garlon 3 or Garlon 4 ? I know the Harper Cocktail uses Garlon 3.
"Cull" is just another four letter word...
