For those who spray plots with gly in the summer. When do you spray? How long do you wait before discing, planting, what ever? I’m trying to work up a timeline. Im wanting to try spraying my plots this year to thin out competition in my plots.

Anymore, I just spray in September. Usually let everything die, then disc and plant middle to end of the Month.

Every year? Have you noticed significant results in your efforts?

I do what Quailman does a lot. I did spray my plots last year to kill everything but clover. My fields are loaded now with 6-8 inch stands clover. Thats What pics are

Yeah, years ago, I quit over thinking it.

It's just a Green Field. And they're just Pine Goats.

We mow them in late July. Come back in mid August and spray them and let them die off good. Work em up in September and plant in early October.

I spray mine the last couple of weeks of August. I burn them after they die off. I disc them after I burn them off. I try to have my fields planted by mid September, depending on rain.

A lot depends on what you are planting. When you are planting and what you want to kill. Totally or selectively. I sprayed yesterday for corn i was planting. The biggest farmer in Jackson county told me to bush hog wait about 5 days for plants to start new growth then spray. Always use a surfactant also.

This is good advice especially for smaller seeds.

I spray mid to late Sept. always wait to disk and plant around mid Oct. depending on rain.

I like to cut the last week of July so does don’t bed fawns in tall plots. Last couple years it’s been so dry, I only had to spot spray. Lot of people don’t understand, it’s not only the green you want dead, but also the roots. Spray at least a month before turning ground in possibly.

If I’m top sowing fields, I definitely don’t want to kill my fields off. I find that it works way better with green material bushhogged over the seeds than with dead material. However, none of it works better than putting the seeds in the ground than on top of it.

Fr8-shakr, what “competition” plants are you trying to eliminate? Or do you just want the ground to be easier to break up?

I use about half the fertilizer most use for the same reason. If they will eat briars and lick dirt a green field with any fert whatsoever must be fine dining and saves me $$$ to boot....lol

Deer still eat it to the ground whether I have 300lb to the acre or a 100.

Dog fennel is everywhere. The main culprits are wild dewberry and greenbriar. Some spots are just matted with it. The rest is warm season grasses. They aren’t that bad.

I do want the ground easier to break up. Ultimate goal would be a primarily clover plot.
