Marketing on pricing

Just like Amazon, there’s times I find it cheaper elsewhere so I did away with my Amazon account. Walmart and all the big box stores do this. Lost leaders and so forth to get you in and then make you walk the store to hopefully have you buy high mark up items. They didn’t get big by being stupid. They count on folks to believe their marketing.

From what I see rural king buys a lot of overruns on the cheap and pass the savings along. However rarely have I found the same items a year later. Usually a different product and higher priced.

I did a walk through of the new store in Prattville the other day, first time I’ve ever been to a RK. Thought it was pretty decent and I hope it will help this part of Prattville stay viable, maybe bring in some other new businesses to the area and hopefully just not another Vap shop…

Bolts and nuts they sale by weight. So if you need grade 8 that’s the place to go. Always get a deal on bolts for the farm.

Mostly where they have the tractors set up. Every store is set up differently based on the floor space of the existing building they occupied. I think Albertville was new construction.

I saw this thread and realized Prattville had one now, so I made a last second buzzer beater trip and bought a 40gal 3pt hitch mounted boom sprayer for my tractor. I didn’t have enough time to really pilfer properly but it looked nice. I’ve always heard they’re the place to go for automotive batteries too.

Albertville, yes, new build. Huntsville went in the old Gander Mtn. location. Across the rest of the state, I have no idea.

By the way, from what I hear from folks, don't buy a tractor from them. Implements ok, tractors nope. I bought one of their pto tillers a couple years ago and so far so good.

That’s because the dealer support is more important than the brand you buy, if you ever have any problems at all. You need a dealer with a solid, competent service department, that’s willing to go to bat with the mfg to get your problems solved.

It’s the same as buying a mower from a big box store. My dad learned that lesson, bought a JD mower from a big box store. Nearest actual dealer with a service dept was 1-1.5 hours away, and they are in no hurry to get your mower/tractor fixed because you didn’t buy it from them. They put you at the back of the line, and continue to prioritize others that come in after you.

He did get a really good close out price on the mower so he maybe still came out ahead but it took ages to get fixed when it did have a problem, and I got to learn that lesson passively lol.

Yep. Huntsville is old , dirty, under stocked and not managed well. In a "bad part of town." That new Albertville store is large , well stocked , plenty of parking and clean.

Well, went to the new RK in Prattville this afternoon. It was cool but I guess I don’t see what all the crazy hype is. Wife gave a thumbs up on the popcorn tho👍🏻👍🏻. Someone posted that if they don’t have it you don’t need it. Well, Mrs. Bamaeyedoc says not so fast my friend. They did not have wallpaper or tile that she needs for our new house!😂😂.

I did buy an air filter for a push mower I use at the bullock lease to cut around the cabin and pond. I gave an hard look at a 49 gun Browning gun safe on sale for $1599. I’d probably bought it if it had a mechanical combination lock but all they had was keypad. I also ran into an old PHS classmate I haven’t seen in a few years so all in all a good trip.

Since I had to take a tractor implement back to Montgomery today, my gf and I went back for a second look today, as we barely had time the first time.

I will say they did seem to be missing a few things that I could buy at TSC. I needed some Japanese Beetle traps, and didn’t find any. I also needed some more bifenthrin to be able to spray my whole yard. I saw some Sevin concentrate but no bifenthrin. They had tons of weed killer chemicals but the rest of the garden section felt a little lite.

But I did grab a big bag of the litter stuff for the garage to soak up spills, and we got some pickled eggs and some apple butter. Then swung by TSC on the way home for the bug stuff lol.

Their King Kutter tractor implements outside seemed reasonably priced though.

RK has the best prices on a lot of things. Auto and tractor batteries being one. I'm running two now and will buy more. We buy their green label bottled water and garbage bags . I have several pairs of their jeans, catch 'em on sale for $9 a pair. They're only $12 regular price.

The link he gave at RK is a different brand and showed out of stock at Prattville which explains why I didn’t see any, but I got these from TSC. They seem to be highly rated
