They would both look better to me separated . The mount gets lost in the Texas shape. Nay from me for the same reason. It seems to take away from the mount. But it was her money so she can spend it on any sort of mount she wants.

I’d do a regular mount with a mesquite plaque in Texas shape. I am from TX and I like this idea better than the OP's photo. Or do the shoulder mount and the cape separate and maybe add a piece of leather with a TX shaped brand on it overlaying the center of the cape in some way to be additional wall art.

My first thought was why put a disco light on a deer mount, then realize it was an axis mount and just seems to busy for me, like the Texas shaped plaque idea,, might look into a bama shape plaque for an European next one
