I would love to know the truth behind why so many places prefer plastic over cash anyway. Did it start due to employee theft? Was it because public education quit teaching kids how to count money and make change (or quit failing those who could not pass simple math tests)? Just latching on to the big push to more easily monitored transactions with plastic and electronic means?

The small businesses I know all are equally happy taking cash as cards and in some cases prefer cash. The other side of that is that I also know a lot of people who do not carry cash as a regular habit, too.
In our history we have had larger denomination bills, including a $100,000 bill. But these bill were used mainly as a method to transfer money between banks.
