Actually cheaper than I expected.
No idea but a couple of observations. We have an approximately 1600’ water line that was put in with a trencher. There’s a leak somewhere in the line but it’s not showing self. Finally located the line (it goes throug some planted pines) and it’s about 42” deep.
1. Run a tracer wire with the pipe in case you need to find it later.
2. Don’t let them run that trencher at max depth.
My issue is the line is so deep I’m going to need a backhoe or mini/x to digs big enough hole to work it. Thoughts were to put valves in until we isolate the break. We’re dealing with 1” pvc, wish it was pex.
I installed a bunch of water line years ago. I shot for about 16-18 inches in south central Alabama. Before the freezer line but not too deep.
It will be higher than that now id imagine, i wouldn’t do it that cheap.
Since you have a meter set, youd need to get a plumber to tie into the check valve, id opt for pex, because you can get it in rolls of various sizes and its better to have one continuous line than to have a bunch of joints where they can leak, but if you want to do pvc, do bell and spigot, dont try to couple it..youll be diggin it up.
12-18in for a standard peronal line or service is about the norm for frost penetration in alabama,
While for large lines its 18-36 or much deeper.
If you trench it yourself and let a plumber come tie it in.. you will probly save some money, id just call around and tellem to give you a quote…all ground is not created equal…if it was hard diggin id charge more..so you may be better off doing it yourself, pex varies by price depending on size of line, which is another thing, the longer the line the more friction loss you will have..by thag i mean, no matter how much pressure you got on the main..your gonna lose it between the meter and your house the longer it is, so its better to increase line size so that you have more water volume..like, if you get a 3/4in meter set, id do at least a 1-1 1/4” if it was more than a couple hundred feet, otherwise id just stick to 1”, bear minimum 3/4 for 3/4. Dont let anyone tell you that if you put in a 1/2in linebit will make your pressure go up..pressure and volume are two different things…you can have all the pressure in the world, but if your pushin it through a straw it doesn’t matter.
