Didnt get to hunt at all this weekend. Did anyone have sum luck at Wheeler or Swan Creek? Still interested in meeting up with sum hunters for either location as well. This will be my son and my first full year at these locations.

I've hunted several times since opening day, but other than other hunters I've not seen anything but squirrels. I mostly hunt the White Springs unit and the Blackwell Swamp. I've seen several hogs at the White Springs Unit, but none yet this year. I've been hunting mostly mornings because of my work schedule, but may try to squeeze in an afternoon hunt here and there. I've found several areas to hunt, but I really don't beleive there are that many deer on the property, or they are feeding and moving at night. I hunted Wheeler several years ago and took one doe, but I do beleive the coyote population has hurt the herd that was once there.

Hunted in Blackwell Swamp Monday a.m. nothing seen, and hunted the White Springs unit this a.m. with one doe and one fawn seen 6:30 this morning. I got down at 10:00 and scouted out another area that looks really good. Will keep you posted.

I am thinking of hunting wheeler. Around the Decatur area. Haven't made my mind up yet. Yes the coyotes are ridiculous on wheeler and in Decatur.

I hunted White Springs Unit Thursday and finally saw a deer from a cluster of white oaks I've been perched on for two weeks. A doe came through at 6:30 am, but of course she was 60+ yards away. No meat in the freezer, but it's only a matter of time. I've got some land in Blount Co. I plan on hunting and give the public land a rest for a little while.

I've not hunted Wheeler but a couple of times since gun season opened. I've been concentrating on private land in Blount, Cullman, and Monroe Co. I did find some scrapes two weeks ago off Swancott Rd. I was hunting Limestone Springs Unit maybe six times saw deer once. I hunted BLackwell Swamp maybe four or five times with no deer seen, but I did see several hunters and one Fox squirrel. I hunted just off Hwy 67 (down from the visitor center) twice and saw deer once. I've talked with several guys that hunt Wheeler consistently, but they too are having a hard time connecting. Best of luck on your adventures give me a PM and maybe we can get up there together and hunt. Most of my hunts were morning hunts with only a few afternoons. I think they move better in the morning, but after striking out several times I'm thinking the # of deer aren't there. I've been wrong in the past and I'm sure I'll be wrong again, but I'm firm believer in scent control and being set up at least 30 min before sunrise I do my homework I find where they bed which trails get the most traffic and look for natural funnels, but even this info hasn't helped me connect YET.

I went in by boat yesterday and saw 2 but couldn't get a shot. I found the about 10 rubs and scrapes in a 2 acre area with some of the trees 3 inches in dia.

I can't get to my area I usually hunt. I take a boat to get there and the water is just to low.

Coming home from work Friday night I saw a BIG 6 point (wide and tall) right off hwy 67 on the opposite side of the visitor center. Of course this was 2 a.m. which I think they only move between 6 p.m. and 5 a.m..
