Think you are looking for Dunstan Chrestnuts. Walmart used to carry some every year but not sure if they still get them in. Usually a little later in the year. Several of the wildlife nurseries carry them too.

Dunstan is a trademark name for a variety of hybrid chestnut (crossed Chinese with a little bit of native) and I believe it is Chestnut Hill that sells to Walmart. These ship once a year and I know that the Walmart in Monroeville usually gets some. They only go to certain, we spread out, locations. But a hybrid is a hybrid is a hybrid. I have both Chinese and hybrids on my property. Most are too young to produce yet but they are coming along. They want a lot of sunlight and need to be close to cross pollinate. I buy mine bare-root in January from the co-op in Frisco City or online and shipped to my door.

I’m glad I asked. I had the name wrong and I was not aware of the cross pollination. Thanks for the info guys.

Yessir. Spacing for an orchard to maximize nut production is 30-35 feet. My oldest, which are Dunstans, are about 80 feet apart and struggle with pollination so I get very few filled out chestnuts. I’ve been planting my younger trees at 40-50’ in triangular patterns. Read up on proper site selection and adapt it to your land. Some places may be better than others for chestnuts vs any number of other trees with wildlife value.

Wildlife Group used to sell some AU Buck I-IV that featured a range of drop dates. No idea what happened to that line when Alan left. There are some Chinese x American hybrids available if you search online. I may have some Dunstan and AU Buck IV chestnuts this fall if my trees produce. Hit me up later this fall…

Didn’t they close down? Don’t want to spread false info if that’s not correct though

I'm pretty sure Alan went to Native Forest Nursery. I would start by contacting them and seeing if he took some of his trees with him.

Another place you could check in Superior Trees in Florida. They have some of harder to find items.
