Well old age is catching up with me and my vision is not what it was. I'm 65. I have always shot a bead on my shotgun. I want to fix up my Dad's Remington special purpose 1187 12 gauge for turkeys. I am just not seeing the sight picture as well as I used to. What red dot scope would you choose that could be mounted on this gun. Thanks!

Holosun or Trijicon

If you did not want to drill and tap the receiver you can put the sight on a meadow creek vent rib mount

I have trijicon rmr on primary and back up turkey shotguns. I have noticed turkeys spooking sometimes in close and as far out as 40 yards. I have come to believe it is the reflection of the amber lens. I’m changing to an eotek (clear lens with hardly any reflection) to see if it makes a difference. The eotek also has a larger sight picture. My experience for what it’s worth.

I have both the Eotech and the RMR. All you mention is correct about the sights. One thing about the Eotech though is you can see the emitter from the front in lowlight. I am not sure about the RMR or others. I haven’t looked, but I believe the coating may keep you from seeing the emitter?

I’m colorblind, so it may have or may not have something to do with it, but the Eotech brightness level is not as bright for me to see sometimes in the full sun mid day. It’s not that I’ve ever had a problem seeing it, just that it would be great to have another level of brightness adjustment.

Either sight would be fine. I trust them both.

I like the Trijicon SRO, but just haven’t been able to bring myself to spend the money on one. The RmR is pretty expensive itself.

Theres a ton of people have killed turkeys with Burris FF and Vortex Venom.

Holosun seem great, my hang up from buying one is the company, not the product. Their products seem good from the ones I’ve looked at that my local gun store carries.

Thanks Jstocks for the heads up on seeing the emitter in low light. I looked from the business end in normal daylight and couldn’t see it. I’ll have to check that out.

Think I’m going with a scope. Hate to deal with batteries and I like the little extra magnification

I’ve been using CV Life from Amazon for $30 for about 15 years. Zero complaints

Going way back, I had a Bushnell red dot, the one that was a tube, so essentially a scope with no magnification. One season it cost me a couple birds. One picked me off and started running. I couldn’t pick him up in the red dot and he ran off. Another one pitched and flew right to me and hit the ground not 20 yds in front of me. Again, started running and I couldn’t pick him up through the tube. I personally think a reflex site best, because you can pick up a moving bird better

Off the radar but Athlon make great optics and at more reasonable prices than very high end stuff but quality is just as good.

I have a couple of Bushnell TRS-25 red dots and like them. Plus they are very reasonably priced.
However, at the moment, and at age 72.5, I'm just shooting the red fiber optic bead on my Benelli M2 and it works fine for me.
Inside forty yards I line up the brass mid rib bead with the red fiber optic muzzle sight.
Outside forty yards, I stack them like a figure eight.

Look at swamp fox dot sights, green and red. Very good sight. Or maybe truglo-gobble stopper sight.

Love a good hunting story, love my family and friends. Some people you can't, but acted like do.

Have 2 ff3…no problems. Have killed piles with em. Buddies have had lil more problems with the venom but no issues with ff3. I’ve caught em on sale for 100-120$ very low profile as a lot of others are too big for my liking

You won’t regret it. Get a sumtoy mount and get it drilled and tapped. Some like the meadow creek mounts…I’m just too hard on a gun to trust one

You can also use a Marlin 336 mount. Same thing.
