I'm in that boat. I have adapted by shooting guns left-handed and like Coosa I can shoot a bolt action rifle quicker left-handed than right. I will say, however, that I'm more accurate shooting long range right-handed with a rifle.
But the bow... oh my. In shooting right-handed, for years I could see through a peep perfectly in practice, but let a nice eight-point show up and I couldn't see through the peep. After years of frustration, I finally went to a no-peep system with a kisser button and that solved the issue for me because I could aim with my left eye. Going back to my childhood, no one helped me with this - I had to teach myself everything. So hopefully, your child is ahead of the game because you're there to help and he's at an age he can be trained.

In actuality I shoot with both eyes open, but my left eye is the one doing the aiming.

In actuality I shoot with both eyes open, but my left eye is the one doing the aiming. If I shot with both eyes open my left eye would take over as well.

I’m right handed and left eye dominant. With a scoped rifle he will be fine shooting right handed. With a bow he will be better off going left handed, trust me on this. He will also be better off shooting shotguns, pistols and open sights left handed. I shoot everything right handed. A bow will give me trouble in low light if I don’t close my left eye. I absolutely suck at shooting doves right handed. If I ever go again I will probably wear a patch on my left eye. I do fine with open sights on a rifle right handed. I shoot a pistol right handed but aim with my left eye. Yep, weird, but I’m pretty sporty with a handgun. When I was a kid, I was deadly with a Red Ryder BB gun. No one noticed that I was shooting right handed but aiming with my left eye. No one noticed it until the first time I attempted to shoot a scoped 22. I was trying to shoot it right handed and use my left eye, so I couldn’t see through the scope. I was really heavy into shooting archery competitions from 2000 up until 2013 and did very well. Just got back into it last year. Shot with an archery coach at a national shoot probably 25 years ago and he said I would really be hell if I made the swap to a left handed bow. Main reason I never did was because of the Buckmasters Top Bow Championship. You have to load and shoot at a very fast pace. Me trying to load quick with my left hand wasn’t happening. I tried a few left hand bows and adjusted very quickly and did really well with them. Glad I didn’t swap because I’m a lot weaker on my left side since breaking my neck in 2009.

I was at a firing range a guy was helping his daughter shoot and she couldn’t hit anything. She was right handed her dad said.
I noticed she was shooting right handed but had her left eye looking thru the scope
Had her do the little hand test and she was left eye dominant
Had her shoot left handed and she was bailing everything
A shotgun is different but still the same. Some will smear their left lens to make the right eye take over. I in origin tired my left eye takes over and I miss a lot of shots. No way in heck I could shoot left handed

I am right handed left eye dominant. I shoot long guns and pool left handed. That's all I do left handed. It started as a kid and never realized at a young age I was shooting off the "wrong" shoulder.I shoot right handed guns. It's only a factor when trying to shoot both eyes open. With a handgun the gun can ride under the dominant eye due to the position out front. I shoot handguns right handed with both eyes open.If the dominant eye is closed or a patch placed over the dominant eye then the sights is still on. I shoot bows right handed and look through the peep with my non dominant eye. It has never compromised my accuracy or ability to hit what I am aiming at. Where it affects folks is when they are new to shooting and trying to look across the gun with the dominant eye. With a scope,or peep it wont matter. With both eyes open it will affect accuracy on long guns that are shot off the opposite shoulder to the dominant eye.
