Yup, thats what I went through. Both sides. Northbound was worse this morning. Alabaster to the Shelby county line was 30 mph stop and crawl.

We don't even want to go back to the beach next week, but Irish Jr. and his girlfriend are flying into Mobile we are all going to our twin grandson's graduation on Friday at the Pensacola Civic Center.

I think next week is going to be our first taste of what "High Season" is really like at the Gulf Coast. We are hopeful that Fort Morgan won't be too bad of a cluster F^$k.

Honestly back when I shot league pics with a friend, if we were shooting in mobile we’d go to biloxi and come over. It’s not far out of the way considering traffic. A few times we’d go down 13. 65 is a cluster too many folks in one spot like skinny said

You’re in the other side of the state so best of luck

Lots of fun running 65 with a long gooseneck trailer or 18 wheeler

I think we are going to head down Monday morning. I figure anyone going down for the whole week will be going down today, Friday, Saturday or Sunday. There may be long weekenders comin back north on 65 Monday, but we will be headed south.

Does this sound like a good strategy?

I would head down 59 to Tuscaloosa, maybe to Eutaw and take less traveled highways south.

I drove from the Bham airport to Alabaster between 4:45 and 5:30 this afternoon. Went down 59 S then across 459 to Hwy52 through Helena, took 45 minutes. Couple slow downs on 59 S but near as bad as 65 S that time of day.

Probably but any day has possibilities this time of year

I know some that run late night and seem to be the best plan.

We used to do that going to green bay. Go thru Chicago 2 in the morning lol and it was still packed

65 is 30 years behind the times I’m afraid

Been a few years since ive been to the coast. When I left Destin, I decided to turn right every time the crowds turned left. Worked out great and it was a pretty drive.

Been just about everyway you can think of to get around 65 from Birmingham south. Reality is that if you choose a alternate route, you will add mileage but during times of heavy travel you might be in the car just as long as you would being on 65 minus the stress.

I have started using the traffic and construction app 'ALGO'. It shows traffic conditions across the state including backups, construction and weather. Easy to use.

Just read where they are offering introductory ticket prices for flights from Huntsville to Gulf Shores for $40 one way. Good for flights until Aug 15th. That's a heck of a deal.

I looked it up. Allegiant Air. $45 for one way on the dates I need (early June).

Only problem I see is the folks that went north to avoid the crowds going south for the weekend are going back south to get back home but earlier is better but traveling the length of the state is a crap shoot on I-65

Bunch of whiners. rofl You guys wouldn’t last 1 day let alone 1 week on 95 or 595 or 826 commuting to work in South Florida. Bumper to bumper traffic. Most folks have minimum 1 hour commutes if not more. rofl rofl
