Thanks everyone for the kind words. Makes me feel a tiny bit better being able to vent on here.
I had a serious discussion with the neighbors yesterday. They were aware of what happened and were very apologetic and upset about the whole thing. They are really good neighbors and we have a great relationship with them overall, but I made it clear to them that their dog visits frequently and this is the third time in the past two months it has come over and attacked one of our dogs and this one resulted in a fatality of my favorite dog. I told them I didn't care if they had to put up a fence, or tether the dog, or get an invisible fence, but if the dog crossed the property line again it was going to have a 142 grain ABLR drove through it's skull. I told them I'd like to continue to have a good relationship with them but from now on that dog had a kill on sight tag if it comes across my line. If they had a problem with it then I would meet them in court with my Ring cam footage of their dog being aggressive and we would see how it played out. They offered to find the dog a new home and offered to pay the vet bills which were substantial.
I buried Reese on Monday morning. Yesterday I went down to the creek and got some flat creekstones. Took some 4x4's and built a frame to go over the grave and then arranged the creek stones inside the frame and filled the voids with gravel. I ordered her a memorial marker to go at the head of the grave. We had a spot in our yard that forms a little hill where you could watch the sunset every evening and she absolutely loved that spot and ran to it every time we went out to play. That's where I buried her so she could see the sunset every evening on the hill she loved so much. I cried the whole time fixing up that little grave.
