Did you get your field sprayed?

I'm going tomorrow, wanted to let all this rain move through first. I will update what I find.

Finally made it over to the property today to check on the vetch plots and alyce clover plot.

I spread the alyce clover on my sandy plot, where I have struggled to get anything going. This time was no different. There may have been a little alyce here or there, but very sparce. I went ahead and spread 100lbs of millet, 200 lbs of 13-13-13 and 200lbs 0-0-22.

Next stop is to check on the vetch. I broadcast it into 2 different 1 acres fields. I haven’t been back since I planted it about a month ago. The vetch is up and it’s a pretty decent stand, but still very small, maybe 3-4 inches tall. I’m not sure if its going to like my dry, sandy land. I have one small area that stays moist and the vetch there was more like 12” tall. One field is overrun with volunteer millet, the other with plantain. I sprayed both fields with cleth, even though I know it won’t help with the plantain. It was around 80 degrees when I sprayed, but got up to around 90, so hopefully I didn’t do more harm than good. I did see two hens with 8 or so poults. Didn’t think to get a pic.

It was a hot day out there today! I spread 40 bags of lime, 15 bags of K-mag and a handful of bags of various seeds and other fertilizers. I’ll sleep good tonight!

I don’t think they have really found it yet. That camera has been dead, so I’m just now able to monitor it. From other cams, they are really focusing on the red and white clovers right now. Most of my vetch appears to still be a few weeks away from putting on any substantial tonnage

10-4, I'll be interested to hear how they use it as the year progresses. I want to try some next year. Are you happy with the germination rate from broadcasting?

Yes, I’m happy with the germination rates, there is plenty of vetch in the field. I am a little concerned that it will be outcompeted by other plants due to the extremely slow growth rate on my soil. I’m honestly not expecting much at this point, but I’ll give it a few more weeks before I draw any conclusions.

No, I wouldn't waste joint vetch on that field. The sandy field got alyce clover which did not germinate. I broadcast some millet on it last week ahead of rain just to get some growth going.

The vetch fields are both upland sandy soil, but much better fertility than the one I call sandy plot.
