So I’ve been considering moving up to a 3/4 ton truck for towing my tractor around. The 1/2 Chevy I have now gets the job done but I’m pushing right up to the max capacity. While a diesel would be nice, I really don’t do enough towing to justify the extra cost.
Anyone have experience with 3/4 Chevy or Ford gas burners? Thanks

We have three Chevy 3/4 gas burners at work. Two keep trailers hooked to them. They are stout no issues

Got a 2025 GMC HD gas burner. It's been a great truck. Fuel economy sucks, but that's to be expected. Tows great. Maybe a touch stiffer ride than the 1/2 ton AT4, but it's not a bad ride. No auto start/stop and no DFM

2024 6.6 gas burner. Spent a month at a local Chevy dealer. Intercooler went out allowing oil into the coolant system. New radiator with in cooler, new heater core, new coolant tank, new thermostat and all new hoses throughout the coolant system. All the hoses have tags with made in Mexico. I guess that’s what took so long. 2300 warranty work 1728 out of my pocket on hoses. I will go on to say best running truck I’ve owned.

What kinda mileage yall getting Really depends on your driving style. In town I get between 12.5-14 if I can coast and it's not red light after redlight. Interstate speeds of 70-80, about 16. Crusing highway speeds I've gotten close to 18. No level yet and factory tires. I'd imagine those numbers to plummet when I replace the tires with bigger hybrid ATs.

Nothing but positives from what I’m hearing
I know a guy and his business switched over a few years ago. He says it’s paid for themselves 10Xs over just lack of high cost repair bills.
Diesels are running at such high pressures now it’s crazy
Saw something not long ago that automakers are gonna move to bigger displacement motors to help with fuel economy and torque and lower maintenance cost. Saw where 8 liters plus are being tested
Another guy mentioned Chevy is bringing back their 350 into mass production and I’d assume slowing use of their 305

My '24 Chevy 2500 has been a beast will pull anything I need to pull. Pulled a 5055 JD from Ks. took it easy and got between 9-10 mph

We had about 35 6.2 f250 an 350 in texas.. i cant remember any of them ever having any real issues besides being very..very thirsty..we regularly put 125-175k miles on them without having any real issues..they were very reliable. Fuel mileage absolutely sucked..with around 12-15mpg on the highway..tad less pokin around and i swear if you pulled a lawnmower with it itd get about 8-9 mpg..less if you pulled something very big.. they were not power houses either.. they did fine..but the powerstrokes we had would turn them inside out.. so no comparison there..i know they are discontinued..but low mileage trucks are out there..an id rather have one of them than any other 3/4 or 1 ton gas burner made in the last 15 years.

A friend had the old V10 f250. Never a minutes trouble crept at the gas pump
Think he said 10 mpgs give or take. Didn’t matter if towing or just riding around

2013 Chevy HD 4x4 here. Just turned 134,500 miles as I was pulling up to my afternoon hunting spot. You don’t buy these trucks for fuel mileage. The best I got on the way up here to Sonora was 14.3mpg. It had the 6.0 liter engine and it has all the power I need. It really impresses me on these big hills and white rock roads. Poor thing does a lot of rock crawling over here and handles it with no problems.
It's hard to kiss the lips at night that chews your a$$ all day long.

How old of a 1/2 ton are you towing with now? The reason I ask is that my 05 chevy with a 5.3 struggles with my tractor on a 20' bumper pull. I get it done, but I take my time getting up to speed and give myself plenty of room to stop. It's probably pushing 7000# or so. The 24 1500 my wife had with a 5.3, pulled it with no trouble. I was thinking of going 3/4 ton when it's my turn, but I've probably changed my mind on that. Her truck also got 20-23 unloaded. The 3/4 ton Chevy with a 6.6 gas motor we have at work, gets around 14 unloaded.

As mentioned, it gets the job done but it squats the trucks pretty good and I’m guessing it probably right at the truck’s limit on tongue weight. I have looked at weight distribution hitches, not sure I really want to go that route though.

My gmc dually gets about 14.5 per gallon, and diesel costs way more than gas. If you are pulling what you are gonna pull with a half ton. A 34 ton gas burner wont know its there. Ive had several, and they pull well. A Chevy or gmc pulls better than a ford. A ford is more comfortable, a ram is just junk! The only reason i ise a diesel is i put alot of hard miles on one, but ive often wondered if it was worth it

Ford 250 with the 7.3. Heaviest I've pulled was about 15-16k pounds and I was really impressed at how easily it handled that weight.

I have a 2500 Ram gas burner and bought it to trailer my boat and tractor a few times a year. When towing, I’m less than 10 mpg. Without towing I average 17-18 mpg on the highway. No way a 1500 would tow either safely.
