I think many overthink things.

1. I grew up amongst river rats who drank, smoked, gambled. Had tats. They were some of the nicest people I've ever been around.
2. Church folk have put me off much of my life. Judging and holier than thou. Missed the point of Christ completely.

3. There is NO EXCUSE for spending money on Tats when you have a family to provide for. None.

4. If you have no family and want a tat, do it. No judgement from me.

My son is extremely intelligent. Loves tats. Has a bunch. I don't like them. I have one. He went overboard. He has all kinds of tats that mean nothing.

My one tat is special. I designed. Means something to me. Even my anti-tat wife understood. I hide it. Nobody knows it's there unless I want them to.

My son's tats are meaningless. He has no dependents. He has the money. So I don't begrudge him. But I don't like his choices. They are HIS choices. Not my place to judge.

But I noted he stopped when I asked him what exactly the tats say about him. None have anything to do with who he is or what is does. He realized then it wasn't the best course and stopped. At least for now.

I'd rather hang around a tatted beer drinking redneck river rat than a holier than thou fake Christian. But that's me. I respect everyone elses decisions to do what they do. Just leave me out of it.

Funny, we were staying with some friends in New Orleans for Mardi Gras and one of the (grown, single) children had saved the money up for the long awaited, long planned tattoo, but had to ask for gas money to get down there to have it done.

I don't have any, don't like them but can tolerate them far better than facial piercings, especially if the piercings are on a food server who is serving me. I find nose jewelry to be particularly disgusting.

Money better spent on important things shelter food spare magazines ammo bills more spare magazines and guns. Staples of life's things.

I’ve never been that drunk.

I haven’t ever looked at a woman and thought dang she would a lot better if she had some tats, however I have looked at some and thought the opposite.

I have a stairway to heaven tattoo on my chest with two red cardinals. The cardinals remind me of my loved ones that are watching down on me. Only tattoo I have but I look at it every morning and it reminds me of my job on earth and the loved ones I miss. I’ve had it for 10 years and don’t regret it at all.

I have no tattoos.

Here's what I always wanted to ask someone with visible tats - When you got that, what did you genuinely want others to think about you?

And here's why - We all form "first impressions". Right, wrong, or indifferent. Based on that statement, anyone who gets a visible tattoo has to be thinking (logically) "I hope this makes people think "X". So what was the goal?

That's a serious question. One friend told me "well, I got it for me!"

OK, fine. Then why does it go all the way to your knuckles, if it's just for you?

Absolutely not judging anyone, just curious regarding the motivation. Personally, I have been close several times, just never identified anything that I was that serious about other than my love for my wife, and everyone who knows me already knows that.

I have none. Not a huge fan of most of what I see on women, but there have been a few that were very attractive. I am usually not a huge fan of sleeves, either, even on men. I think they can become too busy and then it is just like visual noise instead of something meaningful are beautifully artistic.

I absolutely agree that if you cannot afford to take care of your kids that you should not be spending money on tattoos, nails, eyelashes, etc.

DoA has 4 now. One on his upper arm and one on the back of a calf from way back in the Coast Guard days. The other two have been in the past 15 years. On the back of the other calf he has a shellback (something about crossing the equator) and then one on his forearm that matches the one our oldest son has on his forearm as well.

When our oldest son was about 18 he was making a lot of noise about wanting a tattoo and I told him if he would wait until he was 25 that we would pay for it (thinking that by that time it would be something meaningful and not just something cool that was just a passing fancy). We were at a dove shoot at Daniel White's place back in Sept. of 2014 and he told me that he had decided what he wanted for a tat. He told me that he wanted him and DoA to get matching ones. He was 22 then and about to get married in November that year. So, I relented and we all went to the tattoo shop a week after his wedding for them to have it done. I am pretty sure he knew that I wouldn't say no when he pitched it to me like he did.

He has since had his oldest two kids' birthdates done on his upper left chest. He has not had the funds to have his third kid's birthdate done yet.
