Ah, I missed that....I thought the older ones were either v8's or inline 4's/6's
Buick sold the design to Jeep and then later bought it back.
Back in the early 80's I bought a 1971 Vega with a bad engine (shocker). I realized that GM used the same architecture as the Vega in the Monza. The Monzas could be bought with a V6 or a V8. I found a Monza V6 in a junk yard and got everything I needed to install a V6 in the Vega out of the Monza and then found a 231 C.I. V6 out of a 1978 Grand Prix. My Dad and I installed it in my Vega with some tweaks to the engine including a bigger carb, headers adn dual exhausts. I called it my mini Camaro. It was a fun little ride.
225 Dauntless V6, "odd fire" was used in Jeeps from '66 through '71. The odd/skip fire when idled down and open exhaust sounds like a Harley thumping. The engineer who thought of using it in a Jeep was genius for the time, it has a 3.75" bore and 3.40 stroke with a very heavy flywheel . At 160 hp, it catches RPMs very quick and holds them, is smooth and torquey.
Mid 70's GM got the engine back bored it +.050 , changed the crankshaft so it would even fire. The gas saving EPA was in full swing so the 331 only cranked out about 110-120 hp. The Guvment can flat screw up a good thing.
