What kind of pizza place doesn't serve beer? Seriously? What are we now? Cici's Pizza? Mormon Tabernacle Pizza? Sheeze... We had a great pizza place in Summerville, Ga. Crushed Tomato. Great wood fired pizza, but no beer. We've been there twice. I'm not driving 45 minutes so I can drink water with my pizza.

So we ended up going back up the street a block and landed back at Papa Rocco's. Last time our pizza wasn't done enough and I talked to the waiter about it, and he said that my problem last time was that their ovens weren't working properly and they got new ovens. He assured me everything would be fine this time.

Happy hour at Papa Rocco's runs from like 3:00pm to 7:00pm and there's usually a lot of locals at the bar for good reason. Well drinks, certain beer and house wines are all $3.50, which is great drink prices down here. Boho ordered a glass of Pino Grigio and I had a bourbon on the rocks $3.50 each, we also ordered two side salads that were really big and had tomatoes, onions, pepperoni, diced ham, cucumber and black olives on it along with their house made ranch dressing. Really nice salads for $5.95 each.

We also ordered Papa Deluxe, a 14" pizza with Pepperoni, onions, sausage, green peppers and mushrooms. It was only $15.95. It was cooked great, tasted great, great crust, great sauce flavor. We had 4 pieces of pizza left over for a snack or lunch the next day.

This will be our regular pizza place down here. The food and drinks are very reasonable, the atmosphere is chill and local, the service is great and the food is great. I don't know what else you can ask for in a pizza joint. Oh... They have raw oysters and other Italian dishes too! The pizza at Brick Oven may be slightly better, but all the other stuff makes Papa Rocco's pull into the lead. And I'm not even going to try Crico's because they broke my rule that a pizza place must serve beer.

Pro Tip: Get extra Ranch dressing for dipping the crust in. It's damn good Ranch.

Remember friends: Pizza is really good bread with some stuff on it. The pizza cruse is the foundation of good pizza. If you fail on the crust, you have failed. Period. End of story.

Papa Rocco's has long been my favorite pizza place down there and I was disappointed when the thread started.
That Seafood Primavera Pizza is so good that I started making it at home. Try it next time.
That being said if you are picking one up Janinos is mighty fine.
