Yes, it's that easy and I've been doing the exact same thing for several years now, although I started with 50 ah batteries and ran out of power on a couple of trips. I repurposed those batteries and got a pair of 100 ah about a year ago. I have a 12/24 charger, and I usually just charge them in 24 volt mode. Occasionally, I will charge them separately on 12 volt mode just to make sure they don't get way out of balance. I don't know if that's really necessary or not, but it certainly doesn't hurt anything.

I went with these instead of a 24 volt battery because I couldn't find a 24 volt that would fit my boat. I'm glad I did, as that allows me to use the old ones around the farm.

Not fit like in Battery Tray? Just curious cause mines smaller than my Lead batteries but i made it work

I fish in current often and wasn't happy with the performance of the 12 volt TM the boat had when I bought it. To switch to a 24 volt, I had to repurpose the area under the bow deck, but leave room in the middle for the TM cable. I couldn't find a 24 volt battery that would work, but I can use 2 of most any 12 volt batteries.

The only real downside of 2 12 volt batteries is that you double the chance of a bad BMS shutting you down.
