This is gonna sound crazy. Find some Argentina ants. They're everywhere. aka Pissants. Take a shovel of them and dump them on the fire ant's. Fire ants will be gone shortly. They do not co-exist. The only negative to the Argentine ants, that I know of, is they come in the house sometimes. But you can't stop that either, for long.
Character is not developed in moments of temptation and trial. That is when it is intended to be used.
