Shoals Outdoor Sports has base model Ranger 1000s for sub $12K pre-tax. They are usually the cheapest around.

It’s insanity. Same with boats and trucks, but people continue to pay it because they’re willing to go into massive debt for what’s essentially a status symbol Yep, just grown up toys. I don't finance toys. If I can't afford to pay cash a toy I dont need it.

I suppose it is like anything - if you need it AND will use it a lot, get the best you can afford.
If you don't need it and just want it - then consider how little you are going to use it and what you may be giving up for it.
Just remember - you are purchasing a depreciating asset, much like a boat, car, camper, RV,...etc. I would look at "USED" with conditions. Have the unit looked at by a reputable mechanic and IF it passes the inspection, then you will pay X + the cost of the inspection (establish ahead of time your expectations and what you want checked - engine, transmission, transfer case, CV axles,...etc) - if it fails, EVERYTHING IS NEGOTIABLE.
I did that last year with a boat - the guy was asking a reasonable price and I told him that I would pay asking price - IF
1.) The engine passed a compression check (we agreed on an acceptable PSI)
2.) Had the number of hours he stated (he said it had X - I told him I never trust hour gauges, the computer on the motor would tell us exactly and if it is within 10% I'm good with it)
I had another condition IF the above was met then do the following:
1.) Replace impeller
2.) Complete tuneup including oil changes (engine and lower unit) and fuel filters.
3.) Replace the batteries (he could keep the old ones)
Everything was met and we were both happy with the transaction - he probably ended up with the amount of money he wanted for the boat and I ended up with a boat that I felt was in good running order.

I bought a 1986.5 Nissan pickup 4x4 with new motor, Trans, front suspension, rearend and not a bit of rust on it for $7k. It's got heat, AC, wipers, roll up windows and I can drive it on the highway. It's not a status symbol but I'm not looking to impress anyone either. Deer don't care what they get hauled home in.
I've got a 4 wheeler for the really tight spots

Call Greenville Equipment Center. Ask for Thomas, tell him what you are looking for and he will do what he can. Just know upfront that the smaller machines have very low margins for the dealer. The bigger ones have a lot more room to negotiate with. I just went the other week and bought my aunt a 2026 1000 premium crew with windshield, roof and winch for $20k out the door. And he got it ready in an hour for me.

The Tractor Manufactured SXS's are way easier to negotiate with than the ATV / Motorcycle dealers. Unlike the powersport places the Kubota's and the Gators are only marked up so much. Also, the sales folks in a tractor place are different and in a good way.

$22,000 with winch and front rack. That's actually a good price with the front glass, winch and roof included ( assuming it's new or low hours).

I will keep driving my 2004 Honda Rincon 650. I have owned it for 22 years now and don’t need to a new bill for a new ATV. Keep it maintained and in my closed in shed out of the weather and hopefully it will last me the rest of my life.

Im a little different on this. My house is paid for, thats whats most important to me. Having a place for me and my family to live. I dont have a problem at all financing toys. If crap goes south and you cant pay for something, id rather them come repo toys, rather than my house!

Southern Honda power sports in Chattanooga . They will try to add everything on it and jack the price up. You will be better putting the winch on yourself. I have 10 years on a 700 and it has been in the swamp. Plastic is all cracked and have already burned up one winch but it has paid for itself. Axles are easy to change. When I finish destructing it I will have another one just like it. Pulled a Kawasaki out for some duck hunters last year cost him 4300 dollars water played havoc on his electronics. It does not hold back good coming off steep slopes though
