Cedar must not be valuable cause I saw milam logging leave 3 trailer loads on the ground in a pile last winter on the arsenal and they're still sitting there on the ground after they logged and left.

It's worth pulling it to New Market, since they've already cut and bunched it. Cedar is slow to rot , they are working down there now , they may haul it soon.

I’ve been in the wood business for over 30 years now. There are a lot of factors that impact stumpage pricing. Right now pulpwood demand is at an all time low due to a multitude of mill closures across the southeast (the latest being Domtar Coosa Pines). To make matters worse logging rates are escalated due to the high diesel prices.
Sawmills are also running at reduced rates due to low demand.
It will come back, but hard to say if it will be 6-months or 6-years.

I had 12ac of very mature pines clear cut and 12ac of young pines thinned. I did not make enough to buy a tractor and barely enough to replant, but I improved my property considerably for wildlife which was my goal, so I count it as a win. I'm replanting the clear cut in Long Leaf.

Glad I sold most of my big 30 plus year old plantations over the past few years. We still have a decent market for pine pulpwood and other pine products here in Monroe County. It all has to do with demand/markets in your area. You want good road access, good ground, good timber, proximity to a mill and a larger tract.

I've got 40-ish pre-WWII pines I can't reach around, hundreds of 16"+ ash, loads of money tree oaks ... nobody will show any interest.

Kept following up with a forester and he finally had a small family owned crew down the road. Not only was I incredibly fortunate to get it done, they did a pretty good job of cleaning up after themselves.

I tried to buy the adjacent property from the timber company and they basically said no. Said they would sell it fir double market value. I figured they would be happy to unload some with timber values in the dumps.
