I don't remember the specifics about it, but you may very well be correct. If He'd said that these days he would be fired, blackballed, and they would be burning down and looting the cities. This is the actual quote:

I saw it on TV later, but couldn't remember for sure who he was talking about other than black offensive backs. I do still have a mental recording of Woody Hayes coming off the sideline on the Clemson guy though. I was watching the game with my Dad, and I said "WTH?". Dad just gave me a funny look and said something about the same. I just knew I was going to get the belt, but I guess he understood my surprise.
