Buying cigs for mom at 10yrs old (Eve brand)
Making jump ramps for our bikes with bricks and plywood
Milk delivered at the door in metal crates
Atari pong and duck hunt
Microwaves were new technology. Mom had the 1st one in the neighborhood and all the ladies came to see her cook a chicken in 15 minutes.
Phones with 20ft cord so you could go to the your room for some privacy (until someone picked up on the other phone to listen in or tell you they needs to use the phone)
Gun rack on the wall in the den with model 94 Win. 30-30, Win. model 120 12ga, and a Win. .22 rifle on it.

63 here. My guns n trunk at school because I hunted b4 school in the mornings. Guns sitting at the door hoping like heck Dad made it home in time for us to go pheasant hunting in the evening after he got home from work (being on the road). Dad taking me fishing and skipping school during the spring. Riding bikes all over the place. Still can recite the constitution based on that stupid song from Sat AM cartoons. Sunday PM Marlin Perkins Mutual of Omaha followed by 60 minutes. The Night Stalker on Friday nights. Where’s the beef? The inchworm. LOL. I lived in 3 states my final 4 years of school (b4 college). Looking back it helped make me who I am. At the time it was kind of tough.

68. Wearing my buck knife on my belt at school and having my gun hanging in my truck window. My high school principal driving down to Navarre Pier on a school day and loading us all up in the back of his pickup and taking us back to school.
-turning the tv antenna to try and get a good signal.
- getting only three channels on the tv.
- the game pong that you played on your tv.
-zero extended cab trucks.
-no water at football practice
-I used a wood bat in college. (Aluminum bats had just come out and they were terrible. The vibration would cause a lot of pain in your hands when you hit a ball.

63 all the above. No seat belts, Charles Chips delivered in a metal can to the front door. (I still have the cans from my mom’s house) the long station wagons wood grain on the sides. Bench seat in trucks, if you had a gas grill you were rich, microwaves big as a large suitcase, phone on the wall with the cord stretched as far at it wasn’t supposed to.

Stores closing every evening and all day on sundays

I grew up in the 80-90s. So I remember wall mounted phones with 25’ cords. Spiking my part in my hair. Stonewashing my jeans. Eastlands. Tight rolling pants. Big red 3 wheelers. Buying Copenhagen and saying it was for my dad, then the store clerk telling my dad she sold it to me.

Turkey shoots at the legion with my dad when I was ten or so. By the last couple rounds, I was shooting for almost every one of them old men because they were too drunk to shoot. They would send me inside to the bartender in between shots to get them another pull top Budweiser

A 25 horse boat motor put you in the big time. When you hit a stump you broke a shear pen

No fast food. Only momma's home cooking . Turn the antenna to pick up one of only 3 channels. Toughskin pants, dimgo boots, and you only came in when it was raining hard.

Same age as you guys here and this post brought back so many memories!

I remember being about 5 and my dad taking me fishing one morning. Got up probably around 5am (he's never had a problem getting up early) and I didn't mind it because I was going somewhere with my dad. I don't think I had ever been up before the sun came up. I distinctly remember the smell of the air that morning. It was so fresh and almost spicy, it's like I couldn't take in enough air. I was practically gulping the air! To this day when I smell that smell... it brings this memory back so strongly.

I remember Gilligan's Island and the Munsters after school while having a snack. That's all I got to watch because I had house chores before our parents got home. Being a latch key kid, my mom taught me how to cook little by little by preparing much of the meal the night before so I could have dinner on the table by the time dad got home. He didn't demand dinner be on the table but he was in your way trying to help if it wasn't.

Boho, the Gillagin's Island reference reminded me of my Grandparents house. THEY HAD CABLE TV !! When we went to Grandmaw's you had fish sticks and got to watch Batman and Gillagan's Island. It eas a big deal.

I'm 65 and I remember all of that.

Me and my buddy Steve Farley would ride our bikes around collecting Coke bottles, we would take them to the Western Supermarket in Cahaba Heights, cash them in, then go over the the Five and Dime and get some candy and some toy or something and then make a day of finding some kind of adventure.

Growing up in Cahaba Heights in the 1960's and 1970's was like growing up in Mayberry.

LOL! As technology presented itself, we evolved as well! We HAD to have a color tv and then cable! And about this time convenience foods were becoming very popular, i.e. TV dinners, boxed mac & cheese, carnation instant breakfast drink, TANG, etc... So your fish sticks stand to reason! I don't remember many convenience foods as my mom was big on some kind of dried beans maybe 3 days a week with some fried potatoes, or mashed potatoes. Mom also canned vegetable soup, green beans, corn and tomatoes (from our family's gardens) in the summer and we ate on that all winter long. She worked at the chicken plant, too! So she just never gave into fast food (which was a huge treat) or convenience foods. We were very healthy kids and our parents were, too.

I miss it.

Baseball was The Game: Vin Scully and Garagiola on Saturdays; hearing Mel Allen; at night with a transistor picking up Jack Buck and Jim Woods from St. Louis. Running home from school to catch the last parts of playoff games and World Series. The games playoffs were played a lot during the day.
Watching Hank hit 715; Vida Blue and the A's; the Big Red Machine; watching Yaz's ball fly over the green monster.

Watching Bama loose to N.D. and hating those folks ever since; watching the Goal Line Stand;

Having to watch NBA late at night, the playoffs and championship weren't even on live TV.

Collecting baseball cards, the gum was awful. five and dime stores for comics and candy; walking or riding a bike everywhere, be home by dark, or at least in the yard;

Drive-In Theaters; From Smokey and the Bandit; B rated scary movies; to unmentionable movies -- a progression in time. Making out and doing whatever.

I'm 63 and remember all the above and I remember collecting small NFL football helmets from a bubble gum machine at the local Dairy Queen! Took many chores and quarters to get the teams I wanted.

Rolling houses with TP
Making tennis ball cannons out of tin cans
Adding an extra set of front forks to a Stingray bike (with a banana seat) to make a “chopper”
Didn’t need a fishing license for salt water and the were no real limits on just about anything.
Catching spiny lobster with a cotton mop or a Hawaiin sling
Beach-front property was dirt cheap and considered a bad use of money
Hitchhiking to the beach with a surf board and not worrying about getting killed

Smoking areas for students in school.
Walking to the store when I was around 10 to 12 or so to buy my dad a carton of cigarettes. He would let me use the change for a slurpee in a baseball star cup. I finally scored a Hank Aaron cup.
Fishing on the local piers and the Gulf was teeming with fish (it is depressing to go to a pier now).
Hunting doves pretty much wherever we found them. A knock on the farmer's door and an offer of shotgun shells in exchange for permission to shoot almost always was accepted.

My first truck, an F150 that my dad bought for me. It was barely used and still a current year model. He paid $4k for it.
My parents buying a 3/2 house for $21 K.
Our neighbor taking me deer hunting (my dad was a bird hunter only). I was hooked after that first deer stepped out of the woods onto the food plot.
Catching 10 lb bass out of said neighbor's ponds.
Really good rock and roll music that has faded away from today's culture.
Fishing on the lower Tensaw in gin clear lakes covered in healthy grass and slam full of fat bass, huge bream, crappie, and catfish. I REALLY miss that.
Fishing on the jetties at Alabama Point and catching way more fish than we could ever use. You very rarely saw more than a very few boats using that pass and there was one little store there.
Driving from Pensacola to Panama City Beach on 98 was a 1.5 hour drive.

Catching big croakers in Pensacola Bay. They have been gone for a long time now. Today, you wouldn't know they got that big unless you saw it back then.
Fishing in my first Gulf boat (18.5 ft center console) and absolutely smashing the cobia, kings, spanish, etc every single trip. I remember my brother and I taking an afternoon off from work to go cobia fishing. We caught 5 before we even made it to the old Coast Guard station on the beach. Then saw dozens more riding back in. I think I miss that the most.
