I'll add Tony's Hot Dogs In Pelham and J&J Grocery out here in McCalla Tony's Hot Dogs has a really good burger. Midas burger in Arab is pretty good too. Neither are in my Top 5 but still good eats.

I'm a burger junkie and there's no shortage of places where you can get a good burger. It is however a rarity that you find an exceptional burger and that's why I started this thread. Please list out some of your favorite burgers from around our state that you would deem "exceptional".
Here's my top 5.
1. Main Street Tavern - Montevallo Alabama. (Either the classic or the smashed as both are outstanding).
2. Saw's - Avondale Alabama
3. Our Place - Ozark Alabama
4. Vicki's Lunch Van - Montgomery Alabama
5. The Essential - Birmingham Alabama
All of these are a cut above IMO. Let's see your list. We all enjoy and know what we like but if you had a good burger at Our Place in Ozark you must have caught them on their BEST day, or more than a couple of years ago. Service and food have tanked! Has not been very good for a while.

The Keg in Orange Beach. Them things are fine around two or three in the morning. It sucks they make them shut down so early. Used to go by there around 4am and get a burger on my way to work.

Dot's in New Hope makes a dang fine double with cheese, on a flattop. Fries are made when you order. Milkshakes, too.

This is a thread I can sink my teeth into!
Of course I agree with Irish. This is why he and I are where we are on this: Burgers are my most favorite food since young childhood. I'm not opposed to specialty burgers, i.e. mushroom/swiss, chili burger, etc... but give the trad burger.
Funny truth: I used to work at Wendy's, Medical Center, Birmingham, circa 1981/82. I learned officially how to assemble the burger properly at that time! And I still like it to this day.
Toasted bun as Irish describes
Mayo on inside of top bun
pickles
onions
tomatoes
lettuce
Bottom bun
mustard
meat with melty cheese
Then assemble!
I have since learned that the tomato needs to be touching the mayo in any sandwich assembly. Ah, the quirks of the aged!
My latest fav burger place in Bham is Mooyah in the Colonade. But there are amazing burger places in that town!

I’m kind of partial to the Bigfoot burger at the Old Gin Creek gas station in Brantley AL. Big portion though I was really hungry so tastebuds might have been off some. Seriously It was a decent burger
