Is coming along just fine. My homemade JD planter sure does a good job planting the seeds.

Hoss sent a packet of corn as a bonus with another order. My little girl found it and asked me to plant some. Said I'd try. Nowhere to plant on my property so I planted some in grow bags. Don't have high hopes, but she checks them regular.

Thanks!! I love growing corn. The 3rd block of 8 rows is popping up out the ground right now. They should all be out the ground tomorrow.

Worst garden year I’ve ever had. The ground is so dry I havent gotten any germination.

I get lucky every now and then. I always have better crops during dry spells. I can control the water with the drip take putting the water right at the roots which leaves the row middles dry and not let the weeds germinate. The tractors and implements do most of the work. I’ve always loved working with the dirt.

We’ve gotten a couple beneficial rains this week. Far from drought busters but every little bit helps. Supposed to rain tonight and tomorrow. Maybe we’ll get a little more.

I just got some peaches and cream in the ground yesterday. Hoping a little rain will get it started tomorrow. Your's looks great MM991.

I planted 3wks ago and only half come up
Planted the blank spots a week ago and still haven't rose
Now I have 8in corn that's really thin
Hoping the others germinate and can catch up to the originals

If no rain, I will just tear it all up and start over or use the space for more watermelon

I just like seeing corn grow all summer

Old farmers Almanac says second week of May here in East TN. Got everything hilled, sitting on G waiting on O.

Im planting mine next week. Try to have it ready to hrvest and put up after the 4th. Good sweet corn is tricky to germinate. I always try and wait till ground temp is above 65

3rd planting of sweet corn is coming up good. This is a conventional F1 Sh2 called Cosmic. The patch on the right is the first planting. Had spacing issues due to things needing to loosen up on the planter. That variety is the SV9010 R/R. .

Update!!! It’s crazy how fast corn will grow. Changed a lot in a week.

That's impressive. Mine has grown 3" since the rain started a few days ago. I figure it will die pretty quick though.

I planted Early Sunglow and I'm not very happy with it. Dang packs say height of 4 or 5ft! Midget corn. Hell I had 3 packs so I figured why not experiment. I had a few others in my stash and I should have planted those instead. I replanted the bare spots and only half germinated. I guess it was too dry and the rest probably would have risen if I hadn' hand hoed the rows weeding. I was sure not to plant deep. Small patch I'm growing. A 8 x15 area id say. I hate to tear it up. It doesn't look too bad but I'm picky about my work.

Tell me about that drip line. Do you have it on a timer and run it every day? How long do you let it run? I have to find a better way of watering after getting my water bill this month! Great looking stand of corn

I do not have it on a timer. I’ll run it for about 6 hours every 3 days. I messed up with this roll of drip tape. The emitters are every 12”. I usually get the 6” so it takes a little longer to soak everything because less water is dripping. Also it puts the water right at the roots. Sometimes I’ll bury the drip tape and plant right on top of it. Uses way less water than overhead watering and you don’t wet the plant so less chance of disease. It can be a pain to pick up if you let the weeds take over it. I usually get it up pretty quick and reuse it. I’ll discard after the spring/summer growing season.

I sure do appreciate all that info! I really like the fact that you don't water the weeds in the middles. My young zipper peas struggle with disease and then usually grow out of it. I bet it's a combination of too much water and the fact that I water overhead. What is your pesticide regiment on corn?

1oz of 36% permethrin and 1oz of bifen per gallon of water once a week once the silks start forming until silks start turning unless it rains. I’ll spray after a rain and go back to once a week. Others on here use a powder I believe. Maybe Furflyin will post up what it is. I don’t remember. Dypel maybe. (Spelling)

Went took a sample out of the 2nd corn patch. Looks like what sweet corn is supposed to look like and not bananas.

Great! Crazy how zones vary. I still have my third planting to do once it’s dry enough up here.

Some good looking corn there marsh. I haven't been able to get into my corn patch over the last couple weeks because the rain. Too tall to lay by now. Guess I'll go through it with a weed eater and hope fer the best.

My Silver Queen should be ready by the end of June. I always shoot for June 21st because that’s the longest day and the sunshine makes it sweet, at least that the way I think it works.

I went take a sample of the 3rd planting of sweet corn. This variety is Cosmic and is a conventional sweet corn. I really like the this variety grew and it puts the ears on a little higher then the R/R varieties Ives planted. I was hoping it would be ready so I could get it picked before all the rain that supposed to be coming. Still needs another 3-4 days.

What's the secret to knowing when corn is ready? I always seem to let it go just a little too long. I am tired of having to cream a lot of it

I go by feel. As soon as the silks start turning brown I start feeling it. The husk will get tight and you’ll feel kernels all the way to the top. I picked about 50-60 ears today that were ready. I’d normally wait another 2 days and most of the patch would be ready to pick but I have a coin that found it. It’ll be back with buddies I’m sure. Sweet corn will change fast this time of the year. 2-3 days make a big difference. If I remember tomorrow I’ll take some pictures of what I’m talking about.

I would offer you some cucumbers for some corn; but, it looks like you have that covered as well.

Last patch of sweet corn till this fall. It was coming on strong earlier in the week. Interested to see what it will look like when I get home tomorrow.

Ok marsh, let me see if i can stump ya. Planted a patch of sweet corn. 90 day. It got up about three foot high, in about 45 days and started tasseling. It kept growing and is about 4.5 maybe 5 tall and looks like its putting on ears. Planted another patch of seed out of same bag about two weeks later and its fine. Never had that happen before, its got me stumped. No way corn wont be ready in 60-65 days. Seminole xr. I always plant Seminole xr and obsession.

My first plantings of the spring always seem to be shorter than my later plantings. I’m not sure when you planted the first patch but corn grows slower in cooler temps but will still mature in the same amount of time. Within the 90 days the variety takes for example. I find it’s usually about 6 weeks from tassel till it’s time to pick. So you may be on schedule. Your second patch probably had warmer temps to grow in therefore your plants will get up to the 6-6.5 plant height that most sweet corn varieties grow too. I’ve never planted any corn that’s more than 75-80 day. I said all that to tell you that is all my uneducated guess as why your corn is short.

Im kinda anal about my corn , lol. I never plant until soil temps hit 65

I misunderstood what you were asking. You would think the second planting would mature faster due to higher temps and longer day lengths. Sometimes sweet corn does things that just makes us scratch our heads. I’m curious to the quality of the yield. I’m betting it’s going to be great.
