I think they’ve rebounded to some degree and this correlates with around the same time I saw things start changing. 2005-2008ish.
This was shared and popped up in my FB

I do not think they've rebounded in the areas I hunt, I see very few hens compared to years ago.

Im seeing a LOT more birds this year - hens, jakes and gobblers. This is from my avid hunter survey page

I think we are seeing the results from the massive hatch a couple of years ago and the cicadas. I do not think last year’s hatch was that great from all across the board, but I am hopeful that this year’s hatch will be very good.

Most areas I’ve been or hunted have seemingly had more turkeys this year, including a lot of jakes. Appears to have been two great consecutive hatches.

You may be onto something there…..That top right corner may have very well benefited……That’s a good match……I believe that’s an additional benefit on top of an avian die off……. Great timing for some folks to have those things line up……. A lot of those top right counties are going to end up 130-150% over average….. The same setup may very well account for the big booms that’s occurring in Hale and Perry……

I think for others on the right side of that southern strip of cicada hatchings it probably didn’t matter as much because some of those counties are still dealing with other predation constraints…..Its the same idea they talked about with hen survival and other vital rates not mattering if hens are dying…… Hens and poults have to first avoid predation to take advantage of a big cicada hatch…… Where they were able to do that it may have just added to the boom…… thumbup
