Impersonating law enforcement for fraud purposes is often pursued more aggressively than other kinds of fraud.
The best thing to do with it is to call the FBI Fraud reporting number. It'll be an automated system and no one will rush right out to work the case, but it is monitored and if enough people call about a certain type of activity then they will investigate. While calling the local Sheriff, or PD to do a report is fine if you need a record of it, but obviously they don't have the jurisdiction or resources the FBI has.
